Carrot & Coriander soup tastes fantastic! One of my favourite soups. Just perfect for these cold winter nights that are on their way.

Great! Sounds like this could be a good book.

Finished Oz the other day. I think it's quite a sweet little book. A great Children's Classic. I'm now going to read another children's book, The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. I loved the characters in Terry Jones' film (Eric Idle as Rat, Terry Jones as Toad and Steve Coogan as Mole). So, I think I'll give the original story a go and see what it's like.

Bookmarks or turned down pages or...?
Liz replied to Purple Poppy's topic in General Book Discussions
I don't keep a card index, but I do have a book where I keep track of all the books I've read, date started and date finished and also a few words on what I thought of the book. Keeps me quiet, I suppose. -
I've only read The Green Mile - thought that was pretty good. I would like to try another one of his, but cannot decide which one to have a go at.

Bookmarks or turned down pages or...?

Turn down the corner of a page? I could never do that to a book. I have quite a few bookmarks - those arty ones that you get from art picture shops and also the black & white pictured ones. However, I never use them. I end up sticking them to my walls with Blu-Tack. For a bookmark I use a folded over yellow Post-It note. I've had it for about 18 months, so it's looking a bit dog-eared. -
Rats! I forgot it was on. It's repeated on BBC2, though, isn't it? But what's the betting I forget it again....

Something Rotten was better than the previous Thursday Next book. It seemed to have more of a story in it, unlike The Well of Lost Plots that seemed to take a while before anything really happened. I'm now going to have a go at The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I've seen the film (most people have), so I'm going to see whether the book's any good.

Am I right in thinking someone is a little on the happy side about it, then? I may watch it. I've heard that Torchwood is meant to be a little more on the 'darker side' than Doctor Who was. That's why it's on a little later in the evening.

Quite enjoyed The Turn of the Screw in the end. It took a few pages before I really got into the story, but it was worth reading. Going to move on to another Jasper Fforde. This time I'm on Something Rotten, the fourth in the Thursday Next series.

Finished Little Women this evening. It was ok, but not the best book I've read. It just seemed a little too nice. All the girls were very nice and were nice to each other. Everyone and everything was just too nice. So, I've decided to move on to The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. Hopefully this will not be all nice and pretty.

Yeah, I'm feeling a little better today, but I'm still not 100%. I'm reading the Discworld series in order, so I haven't reached Soul Music yet. I've seen the cartoon film of it and really enjoyed that, so I'm looking forward to reading it.
-
Really enjoyed The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. One of my favourite reads this year. Just started Little Women. About to start chapter four, and so far I'm not hooked by it. Maybe it will grab me later on in the book.

Three Men in a Boat wasn't too bad - a nice quick read. I'm now moving on to The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark. I've seen the film, so I'm going to end up seeing Maggie Smith all the way through reading the book.

Went to see Terry Jones at Cheltenham this evening. He was giving a talk on the Barbarians, the subject of his recent book and T.V. series. I thought it was excellent. I didn't get in line to get a book signed, though, as I would probably be still there waiting now. Still, it was a great night out.

My sister and I went to his talk in Cheltenham on Saturday night. It was really good. He talked all about his new book (which was available to buy there instead of waiting for it to be released tomorrow). He also talked a little about his other books and stuff, but all of it was very interesting.

I've been thinking about it. I have heard some good reviews of it, but I'm not sure whether to give it a go or not. Let us know what it's like when you've read it.

Ah, that's good then. Thanks very much, Sib.

I've got two of the Jeeves books - Very Good, Jeeves and Right Ho, Jeeves. I know that there are a few more before those two in the series, but are they the type of books where it's better to read them in order, or doesn't it make much difference?

Wow....finished The History Boys sooner than I expected. Was really good - hopefully the film will stay as true to the play as possible. It would be a shame if they were to lose some of the speeches that are in the play. Have now moved on to Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome. Saw a bit of the t.v. series that was on BBC2 earlier this year - got me interested in it and it looks like it could be a good little read. I doubt that I'll finish it in a few hours, though.

Didn't feel too good today, so stayed at home. Ended up doing a bit of quiet reading and managed to finish off Moving Pictures. It was really good - enjoyed it very much. I've now moved on to The History Boys by Alan Bennett. The film is out quite soon, but I wanted to have read it before going to see the film. It's not a very long play, so I should have it finished in plenty of time. The History Boys....... An unruly bunch of bright, funny sixth-form boys in pursuit of sex, sport and a place at university. A maverick English teacher at odds with the young and shrewd supply teacher. A headmaster obsessed with results; a history teacher who thinks he's a fool.

As part of our GCSE course, we have to read a book called OPENING WORLDS. It's a collection of short stories that are by authors from all over the world, and all the stories are based around the theme of poverty. They're all really good, and it's nice that they are set in different parts of the world.

After finishing Fforde, I'm still in the mood for a funny book, so thought I'd continue with the Discworld series. I'm now on to Moving Pictures

THE WELL OF LOST PLOTS Enjoyed this one, although not as much as the first two in the Thursday Next series. It seemed as though it took a while for the book to get going. But, having said that, it hasn't put me off wanting to read the fourth one in the series.

Have just started THE WELL OF LOST PLOTS by Jasper Fforde. It is the third book in the Thursday Next series. I really enjoyed the first two books, so hopefully this one will be just as good.
