  1. How did you like Twenties Girl, Angel? I think it's Kinsella's best novel, really funny and witty :)

I've only just started it as I kept falling asleep last night! What I have read promises to be good - will let you know, I do like her books though

  2. Whilst on holiday I managed to get a fair bit of reading done

Mink Elliott - The Pi**ed off Parents Club

Alison Weir - The Captive Queen

    Tracey Chavalier - Strange Creatures

Richard Montanari - Kiss of Evil

Now I'm just about to start Mary Higgins Clerk - The Shadow of your Smile

  3. Five quarters of the orange is really good

I'm reading that one at the moment.

Lollipop Shoes is on the TBR pile. So far I've enjoyed all her books. I just need to get The Evil Seed and Blackberry wine

  4. I suffer from contact dermatitis which is a nightmare in my job as a nurse and I've been warned several times that I am at high risk of developing a latex allergy - potentially life threatening if that develops. So I have to have special gloves ordered for me. I have to take an antihistamine everyday and if I get a flare up take a much stronger one along with steroid creams. I have to use a thick barrier cream 3-4 times a day

    I am allergic to

    -copper

    -nickel

-cobalt (this is in print, ceramics, make up, gold jewellery and a whole host of everyday things, )

    -biological wash detergents

    -normal plasters

-most brands of makeup - I can't wear any foundation, fancy creams. I wear minimal eyeliner, eyeshadow on special occassions and hypoallergenic mascara

At least I'm cheap to run against most wives which gives me more to spend on books and stichy things :D

  5. Mine arrived the other day as well and there were just a couple of things missing. Just a cube of 'thread heaven' missing and a piece of fabric. 30+ 6 thread Anchor, 6 Anchor Marlitt (4 thread) 6 DMC satin floss, 7 Caron threads, perle cotton white and black in nos. 5, 8 and 12, 3 packs needles, 3 Kreinek gold thread, and 2 x14 count aida.

  6. Virgin Widow is a must - as every bit as good as Philippa Gregory. A name to look out for in the future I think. This book is about how Anne Neville eventually became Richard III wife

Ken McClure - Dust to Dust

  7. Maybe a stupid question but is there a 'master' of historical fiction, an author who is widely regarded like Stephen King is for example, in the horror genre, within historical fiction?

I guess it largely depends on the era but are there prominent authors to look out for? Historical fiction is becoming more and more 'my thing' by the minute.

    The really good ones are:-

    Jean Plaidy

    Elizabeth Chadwick

    Bernard Cornwall

    Philippa Gregory

    CJ Sansom

    Alison Weir

    Jeanne Kalogridis

There are some newer ones that I am discovering -

    Anne O'Brien

    SJ Parish

    Kate Mosse

    Ken Follett

  8. I used the same site as Kell and I got

    33 Anchor 6 stranded cootons

    6 Anchor 4 stranded Martlitt

    3 Kreinik Gold threads

7 Caron flower threads - Waterlily range

    3 lengths of pre-cut aida (14 & 18 count)

    Anchor perle no 5 x3

    Anchor perle no 8 x3

    Anchor perle no 12 x3

Needles - cross stitch and beading

Thread conditioner and a couple of other bits and pieces

All in all -- 66 items for

  9. There are several crimes that should be punished and I don't think that we should be lenient at all.

    - leaving a book open on a table- use a bookmark

    - not turning the page nicely, just pushing it over roughly - the pages should be turned from the top right hand corner one page at a time

-writing in the margins - should be banned by law

    - deliberately cracking the spine - how would you like your spine cracked, not nice eh

    - turning a page whilst resting the book on your belly causing the page to bend or even tear at the bottom - go on a diet or use those hands to lift the book prior to page turning - doesn't take alot of effort
