  1. It appears the various shops are now offering deals - what have ou found so far?
  2. I didn't think about starting a thread! We're all enjoying this - it's refreshing to not see rubbish people being ridiculed, and I think they have an interesting mix of judges.

      That's great, Kylie, congratulations! :)

  5. I have a horrible feeling I'll end up avoiding it, just because it's been so hyped!
  6. From The Bookseller... So.. who's going to buy this one? If so, is it because of the author, or the book? And would you pay that much?!
  7. My experience was tainted as I was feeling unwell whilst there, BUT.. for me, it all seemed a bit rushed, with a lot of the subtleties missing. I think they did well as an adaption, but there's so much more in the book. Someone mentioned the mutts - this was really spoilt for me.. in the book it shows just how mean the gamemasters can be, but in the film it gave the impression they were created by the computer.

  9. Hi Claire.. this one gets asked a lot, so take a look through some of the existing threads.
  10. I just watched it with Beth.. loved it!
  11. I watched a part of the first episode, but I think I need to sit and watch it properly. The trouble in this house is getting the remote off my daughter so I can watch what I want to!
  12. Just to let those in the UK know that this starts tonight on Channel 5, 8pm.
  13. Your post has been removed - we have a strict promotional policy, please read it before posting again.

  14. I think a lot of people agree about the pin. And yes, Haymitch was much more of an alcoholic, and it took a lot for him to start helping them. I think it definitely all shows how good the book is, as there was so much more to fit in.
  15. I'm glad I wasn't imagining the camera shake Abby - it actually made me feel quite nauseous, which spoilt my overall experience. I hope you enjoy the books.
  16. I know a few people have already seen this film, so I was wondering how you found it? I went on Sat morning, and overall, I thought they did a brilliant job with it. It's extremely rare to be able to copy the book exactly onto the screen, and sometimes that wouldn't actually work. In this film, it remained true to the book, but with just a few changes and omissions. (The most annoying for me were I thought the actors/actresses were all really good, especially Katniss. I do think Effie could have been done better, and it was a shame they didn't focus a little more on Cinna's team, and I'm glad they made Cinna himself a lovely character, as I loved him in the book. At over 2 hours, I felt there still wasn't enough time to fit it all in, and I left thinking they'd done a rather brilliant job, but the book will always contain so much more. I would like to hear from anyone who went to see it who hasn't read the book.. did it all make sense?
  17. We have a new fluffy hamster, called Harry
  18. Just booked to see The Hunger Games in the morning - excited!

  20. Thanks for that. I'll be interested to see how I feel by the end, because although I liked The Stand, I much preferred the first half, and I don't think I'm as big a fan as many readers are.
  21. In future muggle, I suggest using the search on the main page, rather than within a section. Now, back on topic....
  22. Just returning to this thread to say that I'm listening to Swan Song at the moment. As a book in itself, it's gotten off to a really good start - the world has just been destroyed by a nuclear war, and the survivors are starting to emerge. However.. not only is it similar to The Stand, but the whole thing feels like a Stephen King book. I can't decide if that's a good thing, because it means it's well written, or a bad thing because he's 'copying' King. I'd love to find someone else who's read it, and see what they think!
  23. I put Hunger Games in the search, and this thread was on page 2, so not that hard to find.
  24. Thanks Claire - I agree. The same can be said for the Harry Potter books - they are loved by all, but were originally written as YA books, so that's where you'll find the threads. It doesn't really matter where they are on the forum though, as a search will usually find them.
  25. I've just had a look on their site, and surprisingly it seems to European only. It's part of Amazon, so I would have expected a US side as well.
