  1. I've read some books by Shaun Hudson (actually, it's Hutson, isn't it?) in my younger days.
  2. Did anyone ever find out who wrote these?
  3. Please use the search feature up in the top right corner - there's an exisiting thread here: http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/3738-the-mentalist/
  4. I'm only 39, and I can remember a time without central heating! Fireplaces were lovely - we had a gas fire in our main room - but getting out of my warm bed and running down to the fire in the living room was tough! We also had a little electric fire for the bathroom, which we'd put on for a while before our baths. Electric and water!
  5. Has anyone else heard about this? Apparently it'll be in the US early next year, so I'm sure we'll get to see it soon after. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hannibal_(TV_series) http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/news/a382042/hugh-dancy-hannibal-tv-series-is-psychological-and-experimental.html
  6. I was a bit like that at first, but it's fine. I'm sure about a slow cooker function in an oven though, but the slow cooker itself is fine left all day. That sounds good - I might try with sweet and sour. Really? Everything I've read says that veggies take longer than meat! I haven't tried veggies yet. I did a casserole yesterday, and added dumplings during the last hour - it was lovely!
  7. This is a very interesting article about the Beagle - http://www.guardian....e-reader-review Added:

  9. I don't think my kids would be very impressed with slow cooked mice!
  10. Our slow cooker broke a while ago, and I've just bought a new one. We only really used it for a casserole, mince and chicken, so I'd love lots of ideas on how to use it best - what do you like to cook in yours, how long does it take, problems etc?
  11. I use Calibre to change ePub (which I believe works in most readers except kindle) to Mobi (which is the kindle format) - so if you're happy to use that, you can change most to a kindle format, without being stuck to amazon. As Brian has said, I think most of the readers limit you to a certain format, whereas with a kindle and Calibre, you should be able to read most formats.
  12. I really hope no-one wanders into this thread who's scared of snakes. If I saw a pic that big of a spider, it would freak me out!
  13. Carole Matthews is popular, and will probably have a new book in time for Christmas.
  14. I've read Split Second by her, and that was also good.
  15. I keep forgetting to visit this thread - Maureen, I LOVE Stormy! So darn cute!
  16. We have a dedicated section to ebooks and audiobooks - http://www.bookclubf...iobooks-ebooks/
  17. I thought I should come and update this thread, as I chose to cancel my order for the paperwhite. I suddenly realised that the 2 important aspects were the smaller size and the fact it was lit, and I also realised that for a little more I could have a tablet, with the kindle app. I therefore decided on the 7 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab, which I now love. The kindle app works well on it, and the brightness can be turned very low, so it suits me fine. For those of you considering a Kindle Fire, I discovered during my research that you're limited to the Amazon app store, and can't use the full Play app store, which I think is a shame. (Plus, if anyone is comparing tablets, and is put off by the lower storage in the Galaxy, it has a slot for a Micro SD storage card. )
  18. Bought myself a Galaxy Tab yesterday, and I love it :)

Well, I could love a chocolate bar!

It's a tablet, such as the kindle fire HD or nexus 7

    3. poppyshake

      Now I would've been more excited by a new chocolate bar .. I'm such a luddite (& pig) x

Was it an early Christmas present to yourself :)

  19. Is that the John Barrowman one? I heard it's not that highly thought of, so it may not be just you.
  20. I gave up with Ash - it was starting to get a bit silly!
  21. I haven't read it Janet, but it looks like an adult book.
  22. Sue, my advice would honestly be to find a shop with a paperwhite and try it for yourself. The Fire is basically an android app, so try http://play.google.com/ to see which apps are available. Alternatively, there's the Nexus 7, which is a similar android tablet - Amy has that with the kindle app, and it's really nice.
  23. I've also seen the reviews, but I've had a good look at the ones in Waterstones, and the light looks fine. It's the one thing I feel is missing from my original one - I find it too dull if I don't have a bright light behind me. Also, I love the fact you can just tap the page to turn the page, rather than pressing the button the side. Simple things! lol
  24. I may have ordered myself a paperwhite - but unfortunately I took too long making my decision, and I have to wait until mid December for delivery. They're on display in Waterstones, and I really like it.
