Love your review. This really won a prize? Looks like pretentious twaddle to me, but each to their own!

Sad to report that C J Sansom, author of the Shardlake novels, had died at 71. He'd been working on a new Shardlake novel, and the Disney adaptation of the first book drops this week.

I think this was made into a film with Jeremy Irons a few years ago, not sure if the film might work better? I have this book somewhere but probably won't bother reading it now, as I've read other reviews which haven't been very good, so off to the charity shop it will go!

The TV adaptation of the first in C J Sansom's novels starts streaming on Disney + (UK) next Wednesday, 1st May, called "Shardlake".

Loreena McKennitt - Canadian singer/songwriter, probably more in the folk genre, I first heard of her during a walk in Scotland back in 2013, when a member of the group played us her version of "The Highwayman", in the middle of a wood somewhere. Very haunting, she's also set "The Lady of Shalott" to music which is worth a listen.

Not that many, mainly the Sookie Stackhouse books (comfort reads, especially the first four), Daphne du Maurier, classics, Andrew Taylor's "The American Boy", Lynn Shepherds's "Tom All-Alone's" aka The Solitary House, maybe a few others, but lots of keepers as well!

The House of Lamentations by Shona Maclean is the fifth in her series about Cromwell's agent Damien Seeker and is as good as the previous ones. She is so good at imbuing her stories with a sense of place.
