  1. It's nice that Leicester are doing well and it would be nice if they win the premier league, but I think too much is being made of it. It's one of the world's richest clubs, with an established manager, good proven players and a project with the goal to enter in the Champions League. Their good performance doesn't prove money isn't everything in football, it proves that with enough money any well-run club can challenge for a major title. What I like most about it is that they kept players like Wes Morgan and Jamie Vardy, who have proven their talent when otherwise they might have never been in the elite.

  2. I think Microsoft probably had reasons to close the studio. As Lionhead spent the last years producing experimental games, perhaps there will be a new studio to research and cooperate with other developers without the hassle of having a household name with established franchises.

  3. A painted biopic of Van Gogh will be released later this year, based on his personal letters. It's directed by Dorota Kobiela, which has only directed one feature film previously but all her work in cinema seems experimental. The artists were trained in Van Gogh's style for the film's production. I'm cautious, but curious.

  4. Firewatch sounds interesting but do you actually do anything other than walk through the story and choose dialogue options?

It's pretty much that, in practical terms. There's no gameplay, no action sequences with enemies and no puzzles. The choices also only affect dialogue options, I think. But the setting is very good, and you can turn off the player's position in the map if you wish to get lost (you still have the map, the compass and trails with indications).

  5. Both the isolation and the exploring in Firewatch reminded me of the game Miasmata, which has an entirely different storyline, with a survival element, but it's an extremely beautiful adventure.  You might like it too?   :)

Maybe I'd like it, but I don't play on the computer.

  6. Has anyone else played Firewatch, by Campo Santo? I bought it on release through the PS Store about three days ago, and it has grown on me ever since I finished it. It's not perfect, but it felt refreshing and pleasant, and I want more games like this. There's a nice and brief no-spoilers article published by The Atlantic.

  7. Things are never simple, take the plague in Europe - one could say it provided a huge good. Lots of direct suffering resulting in billions having increased happiness. The plague ended the Feudal period, and the Feudal time was vital for us - as was ending it when it did.

I don't think the plague itself was what provided the huge good, but some people's resilience to overcome the most difficult of situations. While you believe war and the plague as advancements of society, I believe mankind's ability to adapt is the true progress. Perhaps we become more lucid in dire times.

  8. I disagree. War isn't the foundation of human progress, but the fear of extinction and the improvement of our lives. War is the most immediate agent of death and degradation, and therefore the biggest short-term menace to our well-being.

  9. Legend of the Galactic Heroes (episode 6) - an anime series depicting a space war between the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance, the main characters being two young tacticians in each side of the barricade. Through their success, it's possible to notice the weaknesses inside each federation. It's been interesting, so far.

  10. Crime Scene Investigation (season 14, episode 15) - I watched it late at night trying to fall asleep, as I sometimes do, but this time it had the opposite effect. An innocent, community-driven school girl is found murdered, but her tracks lead to a brothel. What becomes an exaggerated homage to Twin Peaks turns into a suspense with a cruel plot twist.

  11. Perhaps they assume you read the previous books, it's an easy way to deliver fanservice and maybe poor writing or a lazy way to develop the character. It can also be an important information for the current plot, and dialogues or reflections are how an author can deliver it to the reader. Related to it, some authors reveal what'll happen ahead in the same novel in order to make us focus on other plot points, or to add suspense. My pet peeve is when they spoil books written by other authors.
