  1. Wow! Your thread is really well thought out; you clearly put a lot of time and effort into it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Little House series as a child. Like Narnia, it was an old friend that I always turned to. I was hooked on the t.v. show as well.

My favorite to this day is Little House in the Big Woods.

  2. Hello, again. I haven't been on for over a year, so I thought I'd re-introduce myself.

I like quite a broad range of authors and genres, but tend to steer away from horror or overly-sentimental pieces. I like books that are character-driven. I've always been a mood reader, so usually have several books going at once. Now that I'm working so much, I'm happy to read anything on hand, and can barely cobble together enough time to read one and keep it straight, much less the three or four I'd keep going in the past.

It's been a rather eventful time. I moved to a new state (I'm from the U.S.) and it's been a difficult transition. When I first moved here, I was rather isolated, so I started a fledgling little book blog to pass the time. It's called littlebookreviews.com if you want to check it out.

A few months ago, I started a job that I love, which has been wonderful, but extremely time-consuming. This weekend is the first time in months that I've been able to finish a book. (Happily coinciding with a read-a-thon.)

I'm glad that things are settling down and that books are coming back into my life.

  3. Hello. It's been awhile. This weekend was the first time in months that I've had time to pick up a book, and it just so happened to correspond to a read-a-thon weekend.

I read The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend by Katarina Bivald (384 pages) and got a little over 200 pages into The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey.

  4. I had a good read-a-thon. I managed to finish Last Evenings on Earth by Roberto Bolano, read Octopussy by Ian Fleming and work most of my way through The Career Break Book by Charlotte Hindle. No idea how many pages I read but it has been one of my more productive reading weekends.

Nice! It sounds like you've made great progress. :) I'm settling in to squeeze in a little last-minute reading as the night is still young where I live.

  5. Wow, I certainly wasn't expecting people to be so into this book and start a discussion :giggle2:

I've enjoyed what I've seen of TBBT, but I have a soft spot for TNG because it was probably the first TV show I ever watched...and I do like sci-fi shows quite a bit.  As far as genres go, I think I probably like TNG more. Oh, Battlestar Galactica anyone? Anyone?...anyone?  :P

Love TNG! Wil Wheaton was also one of my TV crushes.

I'm also a die-hard Battlestar Galactica fan, both old and new. It's good to find a kindred spirit out there. ;)

  6. Don't feel bad! I've been a bit of a slacker this weekend. Friday I read three issues of Threads magazine cover to cover, skimmed through a book on sewing skirts and read half of another book on garments. Saturday, I went to parades and napped. Highly productive. :giggle2: Today I'm alternating between sewing and lazing around on here. Does reading posts count toward my totals?

  7. I've been a bit behind on my responses. I had to remove some emoticons.

I've been to the library, and I now have a copy of Lois Lowry's The Giver! So I'm all ready to read.

A slightly off tangent  - the local literary festival will be in March, and I noticed that Matt Haig will be there!!. That should be great!!

Yay! I'm glad you got a copy. I see you're reading and enjoying it! I'm so envious/happy for you getting to hear Matt Haig speak. Enjoy!

Such a great book, I have The Angel's Game on my TBR shelves which I'm not sure about as it doesn't get such good reviews.

I hadn't heard of it, so I read a synopsis. It sounds interesting, so I'll likely download some sample chapters.

Finally finished Ulysses by James Joyce :exc: I loved parts and got fustratingly bored at other parts so it's hard to judge but I am glad it's over! :alc:

Color me impressed. I'm not a huge Joyce fan, so it's all I could do to get through The Dubliners. I can't imagine tackling Ulysses.

Oh, you're definitely guilty!  The evidence is plain to see. Hope you enjoy them all

Guilty as charged! I read the magazines and 1 1/2 sewing books on Friday. Saturday I was a lazy reader, but a great parade-goer. Today I hope to settle into some reading.

Not guilty, I think. You will have happy read-a-thon Dtr!!

    :giggle2: Thank you, Marie!

Well done, that's a lot! Congratulations, well done! I wish you a great read-a-thon!

    Thank you!

Dtr, which Flavia books did you bring home? I purchased one myself today and another using gift cards I received for my birthday.

I brought home A Red Herring Without Mustard, I am Half-Sick of Shadows, Speaking from Among the Bones & The Dead in their Vaulted Arches. A bit of binge reading is in order!

    :angel_not:   Good show!

    Thank you, thank you.

  8. So...I may or may not be guilty of going to the library and coming home with four Flavia de Luce books, two books from The Giver quartet, two books and three magazines on sewing, a Masha Hamilton that I haven't read, one impulse fiction and a random non-fiction. Good thing it's a read-a-thon weekend.:giggle2:
