I'm sorry too, I did like the book as well. But glad you found a read (or two) to enjoy.
-
I am undaunted- the Jack Reacher series will reach 20 in September
-
Thanks so much! That will be my key, I think. I will go after the Sackett books.

Oh that's right, I remember you can't read on the computer/ ink, etc. Definitely find Swastika Night, it's amazing to think of such a world. Yes, Maze Runner was made into a movie (one of the rare instances where the movie was better than the book) but Maze Runner (the book) and The Scorch Trials (it's sequel, there are 3, and a prequel) are both good. GL with the MaddAddam trilogy (Oryx and Crake, etc), I got to MaddAddam and just couldn't hack it anymore.

Oh goody!

I'll be interested what you say because we have sort of have the same taste and this is on the short list for my trip Actually, I hope the 5 weeks go by quick because my list keeps growing Read all day in Phillip K. Dick's A Scanner Darkly. Enjoying it A LOT! Was supposed to read it with Athena, lagging behind because of illness

Ok, I think I can afford that now- thanks!! It looks like a stand alone?

Ya, I can recommend Sean Platt and David Wright's Yesterday's Gone serial if you like horror, you can get Part 1 for free on Amazon... there are 6 "episodes" or chapters in Part 1, each episode is about 90-100 pages. Also, any short stories by Hugh Howey, including Glitch and The Walk Up Nameless Ridge, both of those are REALLY short, Glitch is only a few pages. Wolf Skin, The Caretaker and The Dark Age by Jason Gurley were all good, 29- 40 pages. You can also try the short stories on Andy Weir's website (The Martian), they are quite short as well. http://www.galactanet.com/writing.html Scroll down to "One Off's", they begin with The Egg. A short story I have not read yet, that is billed as a "Psychological serial killer thriller" is called Stick Man by Dennis Yates, it is 45 pages. Good luck!

Awesome! I am totally getting a Stick! I will save you the sticker shock and NOT say how much I would save! Also, can I ask you a question about Prime? Is it possible to download, say a season of a show, and watch it without an internet connection? I want to get Prime for my trip (will be the trial membership then) and download some shows, but won't have a connection overseas.

We were in a pet store recently and met a Boxer. My mom asked what his name was and the woman said his name was Clive. And just joking my mom says "Oh, I like in Barker?" and the woman said Yes! I couldn't believe it (I have an enormous Clive Barker collection that my mom has moved countless times and has even met him!).

Well, I am an anti rating person, but ranking wise, I'd say Don't Let Me Go When I Found You Walk Me Home Jumpstart the World I have loads of her book Samples, just such little time Athena bought me The Year of my Miraculous Reappearance for Christmas, we don't know when we will get to it (this year though lol), but you and Muggle are welcome to join us.

I was going to suggest Phillip K. Dick's The Man in the High Castle. Dick creates a curiously strange world no matter what. There is The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. And I can also recommend Anthem by Ayn Rand. But most of all, hopefully you like tree books, because it is no longer on Kindle, but Swastika Night by Katherine Burdekin is my favorite 1984- ish book and it preceded 1984 by 12 years. If you like The Long Walk, and want some YA, I can say perhaps The Maze Runner by James Dashner as well.

I am on Part 3 (of 3, or 6, depending) of Contamination by TW Piperbrook and about 12% into Phillip K Dick's A Scanner Darkly. World Without End has been put on the back burner for a bit, but not by choice.
-
Woohoo! A convert! Enjoy! And Muggle has read some I haven't, like Becoming Chloe.

Contamination. You definitely need some guts spilling out (and a baseball bat for a weapon) after an emotional read like Don't Let Me Go. How is it going with it btw?
-
You are welcome! I bought a box set of the Contamination series, seems like they have been released like a serial I got Contamination Books 0-3. I read Zero, now I am on #2. #2 supposedly goes back to the characters in Zero. I'd like to finish them all off today. Thankfully, it looks like no more characters will be added.
-
Just go for Atlas Shrugged instead of The Fountainhead!
-
Well, his one act play No Exit is brilliant, where 3 characters (or 4) are trapped in the afterlife. When I did the play (sound tech that time), I only had a working knowledge of existentialism. The I met Ayn Rand

Oh I never look at the reviews before reading While it is firmly on there, I have give myself permission to change the list at any moment Now I think I might take a few short stories as well. I'm only up to 5 books My mom says "You're only going for 9 days" I'm like ya AND?? This sounds epic! I am going to continue with the Contamination books 0-3 today, a nice apocalyptic read. I am still not feeling up to anything more complicated.

Ha ha ha don't get me roped in there with Muggle But it is my favorite book of hers and if you want something different that what we both read, it is a good choice. I related to Billy a lot too. I don't know how old you are, Noll, somewhere around me, I'd guess. But it's weird when the adult characters start being as old as us!
-
Yes, I think you would like it. Contamination did end with a closing, if that's all you want out of it, or you can buy the rest in the series, which are usually a dollar or free. All the books are stand alones but some of the short stories leave you wanting more! Like Sand Part 1 had an ending and I think it's one of my favorite short stories. Course I had to go out and buy the rest of Sand, but other books, are the books in their entirety- like with The Man Who Ended the World. Yup- thought so You can get books 0-3 for 2 dollars.

Title: Contamination Zero (also in A Taste of Tomorrow Dystopian box set) Author: T.W. Piperbrook Genre: Horror Pages: 95 This is a scary story. Plague breaks out in a small town in the Southwestern United States and the police force is only 4 men. How did the disease spread? The story is told in the third person, through the actions of the good guy, the bad guy and a 10 year old girl. Noll, you should check it out (you can hang with the campy but gory horror lol). While I don’t know about all 6 parts, at 100 pages, I can spare some time to read some of them and have invested in the next 3 books. The box set called A Taste of Tomorrow contains 11 books and was only a dollar. I have read 2 books and 1 story so far, 2 were winners, Sand Part One by Hugh Howey (I highly recommend this stand alone) and the other was Season One of Yesterday’s Gone, which lead me to read 2 more seasons with a total page count of 1400+ words. The other was Jason Gurley’s The Man Who Ended the World (which I didn’t read in the collection and might be edited better in this omnibus) which I abandoned because of editing.

Ok I will try and read it with an open mind And I have a warning for the end
-
Maybe I should be picking a different book to take with me...

Not this time, unfortunately, finances and all that. But twice I have taken the train from Amsterdam to Paris, Belgium was gorgeous. I had hoped to go to The Hague and see the North Sea, but I think I will just stay in the city. There is a Matisse exhibit I am particularly looking forward to, as well as The Jewish Theater and Resistance Museum. Thanks! Too bad I am not closer to Cork I am sorry you have been having such a hard time, that sounds awful. I'm glad you were able to just take the day off. BTW- Amazon has refunded me for the Kindle Fire they sent me, since the software issue with my old one. Amazon is good in my standing again. I also went with an Anker external battery and it is working wonderful in a test for the trip!
