  1. If you are interested, he edited and selected the stories for 1986 edition of The Best American Short Stories.
  2. It's sort of a loud movie, but I was entertained. I watched Home Alone a lot while growing up too! Last night, I watched: Forrest Gump Top Gun and Rock Star with Mark Wahlberg (one of my favorites)
  3. I am sorry to hear that, I know you were looking forward to some new experiences. Yesterday was Martin Luther King Jr.'s observed birthday, a national holiday. I taught my 7 year old about slavery, discrimination, segregation, the bus boycott in Alabama and played her part of his I Have a Dream speech. It was a wonderful experience teaching her. We also started Goosebumps: Night of the Living Dummy (130 some pages )
  4. I can see why it's one of your favorite books- I am now just under 40% into The Time Traveler's Wife and am totally in love with this book! My first though when I woke up this morning was- I get to read a great book today!!
  5. Buckets and buckets of rain! But its Cali, so its about 14C I like the rain, unless I have to be out in it, and today I don't!
  6. That sounds really good! I will get the sample now!
  7. We bought Goosebumps and rented Home Alone today
  8. *sigh* the 2016 TBR grows...
  9. I dare say my slump is over, after giving up The Life of Lady Margaret Douglas by Alison Weir. Instead, I started The Time Traveler's Wife this afternoon.
  10. Thanks for your views on The Radley's. I hope to read it this year for a read a thon. I'm glad for the heads up on the Amazon spoilers- I hate when they do that!
  11. I want to put A Golden Age on my TBR, I saw you were reading it and was curious so I looked it up- sounds great. I've also heard of A People's History... Good luck with that I am in sort of a reading "slump" so I am taking today off and indulging in BBC History Magazine for the rest of today. I always look forward to the book section!
  12. I did not know this- thanks!! Catherine Ryan Hyde will be out with a new book, Leaving Blythe River on June 14th: Seventeen-year-old Ethan Underwood is totally unprepared to search for his father in the Blythe River National Wilderness. Not only is he small, scrawny, and skittish but he’s barely speaking to the man after a traumatic betrayal. Yet when his father vanishes from their remote cabin and rangers abandon the rescue mission, suddenly it’s up to Ethan to keep looking. Angry or not, he’s his father’s only hope. With the help of three locals—a fearless seventy-year-old widow, a pack guide, and a former actor with limited outdoor skills—he heads into the wild. The days that follow transform Ethan’s world. Hail, punishing sun, swollen rapids, and exhausting pain leave him wondering if he’s been fooled yet again: Is his father out here at all? As the situation grows increasingly dire, Ethan realizes this quest has become about more than finding his dad. Also, Lee Child will be out with the 21st Jack Reacher novel, Night School September 6th!
  13. I loved hearing about all of that! I am so happy for you! And hell ya to Spain!!
  14. It's not on my TBR for this year, but I am super curious about this book!
  15. Raymond Carver is my favorite writer I am pleased you like his work so much, I have met very few that have read his stories. HIs canon was just released on Kindle last year, so I really enjoyed re- re-re reading the collections What We Talk About When We Talk About Love and Will You Please Be Quiet, Please? My favorite story of his is What's in Alaska? There are so many to be loved, it is hard to chose.
  16. Ooh- I do hope you like it, it's got some lovely twists and emotions goin' on. I loved the way she chronologically organized the story.
  17. You need to read Lord of the Flies
  18. Ugh- I had such a bad reading period yesterday. After I finished Hunger, I couldn't find anything to read! Nothing appealed to me. I wasted like, half a day reading samples. I was afraid I was burned out, as my reading this year has been pretty good so far. But this morning I was in fine shape and began Alison Weir's brand new book The Lost Tudor Princess: The Life of Lady Margaret Douglas. It just came out on the 12th.
  19. I didn't even think about that. Grant is very subtle with his "in between the lines". Like the Sam/ Caine thing.
  20. Ya see how small font 12 is? That's what it looks like when I paste it over from Word. Then it gets huge if I go to 14 on the board size adjuster thing.
  21. I don't know what to do about my font size. I use the standard 12 in my Word document and then when I paste it over here, it turns out the size of my Hunger review. But of I try to resize it on the board after pasting it, it turns out the size of my The Pact review It's almost as frustrating as not being able to post the book covers
  22. I just finished book 2 in the Gone series, Hunger. was so good, review in my thread (and yes, I kept up with Gaia ). I think my next book will be either a Philippa Gregory or The Bookseller by Cynthia Swanson.
  23. Yes, I hope to start a subscription as well, soon. I enjoyed the audio books I have heard- Sissy Spacek reading Carrie comes to mind- and I am looking to start the Harry Potter series later in the year via audio. I plan to use the subscription plan for that, as each audio book is 30 dollars
  24. Ok, now waiting for your review of Hunger
