  1. I agree, I always read above my grade level. But it has stuck with me, all these years, a powerful read for sure.
  2. I agree too! I can't wait to see The Martian though.
  3. It is that. I read it in 5th grade and never got over it.
  4. I'll be interested to hear what you think of MR Carey's The Girl With All the Gifts, when you get to it, I really liked it, Have you never read The 100 Year Old Man...? And you've read Atlas Shrugged, right? I love the pictures and am glad you had such a fun day
  5. Oh cool- I think I asked you in another thread which one you had bought! I am glad you are enjoying audible, I might sign up next month. I am also tempted to do the HP's... I've never read them before!
  6. I am fascinated by Jon Krakauer's Under the Banner of Heaven and really am loving the audiobook.
  7. I hope you like it! Gaia and Muggle are all fans too!
  8. It was really no big deal! They do it on the exhale and it seems to help. It didn't hurt at all and if it did, it was only a second. What kind of Kindle did you get? I want the audio subscription too- hopefully soon. I've just gotten into them and enjoying Jon Krakauer's Under the Banner of Heaven. Are those Harry Potter's the ones narrated by Jim Dale? They sounds fabulous! OMG about your feet. I am so sorry! It sounds like an ongoing problem?
  9. I got my nose re-pierced today I fell in Krakow about 3 years ago and it came out. Now its back and my face looks normal again
  10. You'll be fine! It is a little sensitive in subject matter though. I can recommend The Humans by Matt Haig and The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson.
  11. Nice! I hope you enjoy them when you get to the books
  12. Do you buy from Amazon? You can try the Immersion reading, where you buy the book and the audio (at a discounted price) and it will read along with the text of the book. Also, look for shorter audiobooks to start
  13. I hope you enjoy them, which ones did you get? I am enjoying my new audiobook Under the Banner of Heaven very much and thanks for all the input on them! It goes slow, but that is a good thing for me right now. Tempted to take on King's The Stand next, its 47 hours
  14. I will totally check out the BBC! Thanks for that tip, Chrissy and Raven. Chrissy- It's good to hear some praise for Midnight's Children, it was so mixed on here when the group read was done. But I like Rushdie. Yes, it is very easy, depending on the narrator. Amazon will let you listen to 4 minutes of a sample.
  15. I have been having trouble concentrating for awhile, so I am going to try my first "real" audiobook, Jon Krakauer's Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith.
  16. Interesting, I haven't read any Agatha Christie as of yet- I will check out And Then There Were None. The Radley's is on my TBR list for 2016 already, so I might do the audiobook of that! Thanks for taking the time to answer
  17. I have about 3 or 4 more audiobooks to come up with to convince me I need Amazon's Audible. I know it's a small percentage of us that are interested in them (and if you are, come out!), so could you please tell me about one or two of your favorites? The more drama, the better (in the recording ) I also prefer when an author reads their own books, or the book is read by a well known actor/ narrator. One of the best I've listened to was Sissy Spacek reading Carrie. Convince me!
  18. Plus, some 1300 pages will be the Gone series I'm glad you finished this, now I really need to get a move on Lies!
  19. Lists, lists and more lists I just convinced myself I need a new list full of wish list audiobooks
  20. I think In Cold Blood is one of the best crime books ever! I can't imagine MM in that role either, I haven't seen the movie, but all I could envision of Holly was Hepburn's character. I tried watching the show, but couldn't get along with some scenes in the beginning episode. I liked the book though. Eye in the Sky was great, better the more I think about it. That's such a great thing, isn't it? You make such good progress when you do them!
  21. You might like Damned by Palahniuk, its, IMO his easiest and most sane novel. 13 year old Madison is in hell from a marijuana overdose By Thompson. Well, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is the big one. I think you'd like the weirdness of Fear and Loathing, but not sure you would like all the drug humor. If you'd be fine with that, go with Fear and Loathing It is still one of my favorite books (talking top 50 here lol) Burrows. Well, again, Naked Lunch is his most famous, I couldn't get through it, it's pretty gross. Instead, I would recommend Junkie, which in itself, would represent Burrows just fine. Thompson and Burrows are not for everyone, but their writing was definitely on the edge during their generations.
  22. That's terrible! Such a good book! (and the movie too!)
  23. You've never read Fight Club??
  24. I don't think I read in any accent. Well, I guess I must read an "American" one Congrats on book 13, great!
  25. A Scanner Darkly entered my top 10 of all time last year. I've also read Man in the High Castle, but that one is ok. I hope to read one of his others, Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said later this year If I had to nail it down, he's like, a mix between Hunter Thompson, William S Burrows and Chuck Palahniuk
