  1. bookadayuk September 7th- Favorite Fictional Monarch I'm not sure how fictional he is, but the Bloodletters Daughter, taking place in 1606, is a fiction book, billed as a Historical Fiction. Linda Lafferty is a guilty pleasure for me, so I pick Don Julius, crazed son of emperor Rudolf II of Prague. Don Julius was real, just no reports of him being mad or needing bloodletting. It was a fun read though. lol I wish they had been creepy! I love bookadayuk. Since no one else joined in, in August, I figured I'd just answer them in my thread, like you originally did. I was just wondering if anyone had been looking at my choices Thanks for looking in! I loved your choices, so if you want to pick it back up, I'd totally visit your thread. Do you post on Twitter or just lurk?
  2. I bought 3 physical books yesterday! First time in a loooong time. I bought that Count of Monte Cristo folio edition for my mom, the graphic novel to Clive Barker's Great and Secret Show (for my Barker collection) and the D'Aulaires' book of Greek Mythology (loved this as a kid). Then for my Kindle I bought The Best American Short Stories 2013 ($1.99) and The Alchemist ($2.75- odd price, huh?). Oh! And I bought "The Answers" issue of Time Magazine. Very good, but it's a weekly and I'm not sure I can commit to a weekly magazine so I didn't subscribe.
  3. I just saw this cover on Amazon and thought it was awesome!
  4. bookadayuk September 6th- Best short story collection Goes to my second favorite writer of all time, Raymond Carver. Master of the short story. Specifically, Where I'm Calling From.
  5. I think it is intentionally that way. My mom looked at it kinda weird too so it wasn't just you. I really like the ^^ ones of the other characters.
  6. Ma heid’s gaun doon. It jerks up so suddenly and violently, ah feel it’s gaunnae fly oaf ma shoulders ontae the lap of the testy auld boot in front ay us, is a good example of how Trainspotting goes. It is so difficult for me. Anyway, I am the same as you in the Friday department of the read a thon... Frankie & BSchultz, how's it goin'?
  7. YUM! Honestly, yours looks great next to the other one and I probably wouldn't have known the difference if you hadn't posted about making the cheesecake. Happy Birthday
  8. I too am guilty of this!
  9. Do you read fantasy in Dutch?
  10. Aw! It's really good- but really twisted! If my copy wasn't packed away, I'd lone it to ya, even though it's probably be a million dollars to ship to Australia. Oh- I just saw it was re-released on Kindle and in paperback on Amazon over here- that isn't the case in Australia? I was a bit too young for the series when it ran on TV originally, but I did see the movie (Fire Walk with Me). And yes, have fun at the book fair!
  11. Margaret Atwood?? Ugh. I wonder who else has been selected. And the part about the authors that haven't been born yet is cool. I like her quote, "You don't have to be around for the part when if it's a good review the publisher takes credit for it and if it's a bad review it's all your fault. And why would I believe them anyway?" I also like She predicted that the readers of 2114 might need "a paleo-anthropologist to translate some of it for them", because "language of course will have changed over those 100 years. Maybe not so much as it changed between say 1400 and now, but it will have changed somewhat". Interesting. And the story she told of the Haida language- I think I just gained some respect for Atwood.
  12. So, I'm not sure I've got a great start on the read a thon today. I "read" some Trainspotting this morning, but since it's an audio, it doesn't go as fast as I normally read (plus, it's in Scottish!). But first I had to read/ study a chapter in my text book for school. Oh- and I bought Time magazine for this week, which sounds interesting- questions you didn't even know you needed to know. I'm just sorta reading everything. I've probably only read 45minutes and about 40 pages!
  13. The new poster for Katniss is out! I can not wait!!
  14. Hm. I never noticed the difference. I guess I shouldn't work for Amazon after all
  15. bookadayuk September 5th- Book I bought despite the cover Great novel, bad cover. I wonder if Hemmingway would've liked this. Edit: Someone on Twitter said any cover that has to do with the movie. Totally agree- I hate that.
  16. bookadayuk September 3rd- Book I bought because of the cover Has to be Keith Luethke's A Zombie Apocalypse. I read 5 of 14 or so and they all were horrible! Thankfully, they are short stories- and the covers are great.
  17. It would've been better had it paid off!!
  18. I just started the Amazon Kindle Immersion Reading with Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh. So much easier to understand!
  19. Oh my- that's like a trip of a lifetime! I'd love to see a few pictures! I was able to buy it today I'm so excited, I can't wait for it to get here! WOW! That sounds absolutely AMAZING!! We just could not make it all the way to Maine on our trip, sadly. Will/ Can you post a pic or two? Lobster- yum! Ever had it friend? We did at Plymouth Rock and if you haven't had it, don't Why someone would fry perfectly good Lobster is beyond me!
  20. What ages do you teach? I'd love to teach 16-17 year olds. And it's English, right?
  21. I liked your review... I've only read one Heinlein, this year (thanks, Tim) and enjoyed it, so I'm glad some of his other stuff is good too. I'd give this one a try. *Goes to get Kindle Sample*
  22. I've seen the first episode of season one and it was really good- but that's the one King had a hand in, I think he even wrote it. I have been recording season 2 on my DVR as it just came back on after, like, a year break. I'd give epoisode 2 a try, just to see. I thought I'd keep season 2 recorded just in case I like season 1. I am rambling Can you download B&N books on a Kindle? Or do you have a nook too?
  23. I swear on anything, hearts were my brother's thing too. We love hearts around here. And if you really want to get into a Kindle, get a small Kindle Fire- you can see all your covers there (in HD color), plus you can do the immersion reading! I really should work for Amazon Then again, you have an Ipad, right? Isn't there an Amazon app?
  24. No, no, I just live vicariously through you, Tim and Steve I have picked up some good suggestions though- both of which were 4/5's for me.
  25. Beautiful color! What color is your hair naturally to take such a color? You look so different without your glasses too! So cute
