I loved The Witches too! What books did you love as a child (either read to or to read yourself)? I loved Roald Dahl books, mainly The BFG and The Witches. Also when I was a little older, I loved The Famous Five and The Secret Seven series. I would read and re-read them. Never got sick of them.
I read behind the computer too sometimes while I'm waiting for it to boot up. My computer is pretty fast though XD, but it's a habit from earlier days..Where do you read? On the sofa, in the kitchen, in bed, in the bath, in front of the computer (when I'm waiting for it to boot up).

That's great to hear, I'm glad you're enjoying it500 pages into The Eye of the World and thoroughly enjoying it! Started off a bit predictable and familiar but quickly found it's own path.
.
The Desert Spear I really enjoyed, I hope you do too when you read it
. I own some of the books you mention or it's on my wishlist (no. 1 of the series) but nothing else I've read so can't advise you on it.

I think this is a problem many of us will be familiar withI just finished reading The City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. I'm not too sure what I'll read next. I might even read The City of Ashes. Or perhaps A Wrinkle in Time. Sometimes I wish that I didn't have so many books to read.
. Hope you find something nice

I've been busy putting my wishlist on GoodReads. Now I think I'm going to start reading Penny Vincenzi - Forbidden Places. Also on the perhaps-soon-to-be-read pile is Stephen King - It and Suzanne Collins - Hunger Games 2: Catching Fire, and maybe a Charles Dickens short(er) book.

I really liked Flowers for Algernon, it's a great story. I hope you have fun

Yeah, that's pretty cool

I just finished reading Jodi Picoult - Lone Wolf, a great book!
It's about a man, Luke Warren, who has, among other things, lived among wolves for two years, who gets into a car accident with his daughter Cara. Luke is in a coma and the doctors think it's unlikely he'll ever wake up. He also has a son, Edward. Luke is divorced of his (ex)wife Georgie, and she lives with her new husband and twins in a new place. The book is about the two siblings (Cara and Edward) both wanting to be the legal guardian of Luke, both wanting different things for their father to happen.
The book is told from viewpoints of several characters, as with most of Jodi Picoult's books. It also has a legal/court element to it (I think this is the case for most of her books). I liked it a lot. It was an emotional read, you really feel for the characters. It's a tough situation the family finds themselves in and it makes you think. It reminded me a little bit of The Descendants but only because that also features a character who gets in an accident and into a coma (this happens in the beginning of the book).
Either way, I really liked this book. It really made me want to keep on reading, especially in the second half of the book.
***** (5/5)

I really liked The Avengers, it's quite funny imo

Thanks for your answers, quite interesting!
I do this too.Do you spend a lot of money on books?I try and find bargains as much as possible.
I like WHSmith too, can't believe I forgot them. On a sidenote, I do buy quite a few books at bookfairs normally, but since this isn't an actual shop I didn't list it. I do like them, though.Favourite book shop(s): There is a bookstore on Martha's Vineyard, called Bunch of Grapes....my favourite bookstore I've ever been in. But where I live, the choice is pretty much Waterstones or WHSmith.
(hmm, it seems I can't put any "enters" between my text and the quotes anymore, for some reason.)

This sounds quite good. I don't own an Ipad myself but if I had one I might be interested in this, I love the Discworld books.

Jaffa cakes are really nice! I had some a few years ago, when I was in the UK. We have something similar here in the Netherlands, we call them Pim's (by Lu), they're great! We have some in the basement, unfortunately it's not cooking-eating-time anymore
.
I had krakelingen earlier, they look a bit like pretzels but they're sweet (if you Google it and go to Images, you can see some examples). They're my favourite cookies.

I thought it'd be fun to do a little book survey and read everyone's answers. If no one likes it, that's ok too, thought I'd give it a try
. I'm sure the answers to some of these questions may be found in other topics, so I understand if you can't be bothered with some of the questions etc. Some of those topics haven't been posted in for several years and I wasn't sure about resurrecting each one just to post my own answers in it etc.

The Past
When did you start to love reading? When I was about 9 years old we had to go to the school library and borrow books there, to read in the reading time in class. Ever since, I've loved books.
What books did you love as a child (either read to or to read yourself)? To be read to, a book called Monkey. I don't remember who wrote it. To read myself, I loved the Babysitter's Club books by Ann M. Martin. Unfortunately only half of them were translated into Dutch. I also loved many of R. L. Stine's horror books and Thea Beckman's books. There are many more but I think these would have to be my favourites.
Childhood memories of reading (if you have them)? I used to sit in my room a lot, after school, and read book after book after book. We had to go to two libraries because I didn't have enough to read for a week, otherwise.
Did you read books for school? In primary school we got to pick books ourselves. For secondary school / high school, we had to read a number of novels picked by teachers as well as choose some ourselves, as long as it was considered literature from the appropriate country. I read quite some great books and I also read some not so great books.
Favourites
Favourite book: Couldn't choose.
Favourite author: Hmm, there are so many good authors!
Favourite genre(s): Fantasy, science-fiction, contemporary fiction, chick-lit, literature.
Your Collection
Do you own an e-reader? I've ordered one but it hasn't arrived yet. So 'yes', but I haven't actually held it in my hands yet.
Ebooks or physical books (or both)? So far, physical books, but lately I've become less opposed of e-readers and thought it might be useful for when I travel. Physical books for now, but this may change a bit in the future.
Hardcover or paperback (or both)? Paperback.
New books or used books (or both)? New unless it's not available or very cheap to buy used books (where I live there aren't many charity shops or easy places to buy used books for cheap). I prefer my books to be in a good condition and I help pay the author(s).
Big books or small books (or both)? I love long books but I also read smaller books now and then.
What language are most of your books written in? English mainly.
Favourite book shop(s): In terms of where I buy, it's mostly online (mainly Amazon). In terms of an actual book shop, to look inside, I like Waterstone's, The Works, Bruna, Selexyz.
Do you buy a lot of books? Yes.
Do you spend a lot of money on books? Probably yes.
Amount of owned books: 1000+ adult books. Children's books, 300-500.
Amount of books read: Since 18+, about 600. In total, probably over 2000 I estimate.
Amount of books TBR: Too many
.
Amount of books wishlisted: Too many
.
Reading
How often do you read?: I tend to read on most days, unless I'm too tired or busy with other things.
Where do you read? Mostly in my room.
When do you read? Usually in the afternoon, sometimes in the evening. In the weekends sometimes also in the mornings.
How fast do you read? Pretty fast.

It's not on GoodReads yet, I'm thinking of putting it on there soon though, thought it might be handy.

Great review, I'll put it on the wishlist!
(I've seen the film ages ago, not sure how it compares?)
EDIT: Hmm apparently it was already on my wishlist, I don't recall putting it there but I must have! XD
-
I liked The Time Machine, sounds like I'll have to buy and read Doctor Moreau sometimeOf the ones I've read, I'd definitely recommend going for The Time Machine or The Island of Doctor Moreau over this one, Janet
(apparently it was already on my wishlist XD I think you or someone else from BCF recommended it to me). Shame you didn't like The First Men in The Moon that much.

Wow, I'm glad the surgery went well and I hope she'll get better now. None of our dogs have had cancer, but the first one did have problems with his leg after a while so they put a metal pin in his bone (I can't remember the details). It sounds like Keiko had a rough time, very sneaky though that she was just faking some of the pain! I hope she gets well soon, pet her extra from me
. I look forward to see pictures of Keiko, I suppose she'll be quite bald, the poor dog.
You didn't make many spelling mistakes at all, so don't worry about it.
Hugs back!

Awww, that's awkward
, I hope you'll be able to do it (and that you pass, of course!).

Nice that we have some authors in commonI've always wanted to read Wheel of Time - I did start the first one years ago and never finished it. Perhaps it's time!
Also Terry Pratchett - it's my project to go through all the Discworld books.
Nicholas Sparks and Jodi Picoult have a lot of books I've enjoyed over the years. Oh, oh and Sophie Kinsella too!
!
@Tim
Haha, nice! I love that film.
-
Hey, I don't know you since I've only joined the forum a month ago, but it's nice to meet you though!
-
I really like Dan In Real Life too, it's a great film (you should see all of it sometime)! I think Steve Carell is a great actor. I don't recognise the other names you mention, I only know the most famous actors really
, though I may recognise them if I see them in something else.

We had a power cut, gladly power has just been restored! I'm glad it didn't take too long. We keep the house warm using wood but it needs electricity to pump the water through, so with a power cut there's no electricity but also no heating.

Hey Lisa, welcome here

Thanks, that can be handy sometimes

Nice review, it's great to read your thoughts on it. It sounds like something I'd enjoy reading, will get to it at some point! (I bought it last year on a sale)
-
I haven't actually read the original English version - I bought it but haven't gotten around to reading it yet (it's not that big, I should really read it sometime). I love the story! Would probably also give it 4/5, but I'll have to see how the author writes in original English to give a definitive rating.
