  1. x I get this quite a bit with adding books to my wishlist, I want to put it on there only to find out it's already there.
  2. Nice review of Labyrinth , it's on my wishlist. My parents own a Dutch copy but I'd want to read it in English.
  3. x So far this year I've read 90+ books, it'll be interesting to see what my total is at the end of the year.
  4. Sounds like you (mostly) had a great time, pontalba ! For me things are going with ups and downs, some moments are better, others less so. I'm not sure why my mood seems to swing so much, I can't fully explain it but maybe it's not weird since I'm just overtired and burned out or such. In other news, my parents have their Tesla S! My parents have never owned a new car before. I think especially my dad is really enjoying it . It's quite neat, it's very quiet, the seats are comfortable and the technological features it has are very nice (ie. navigation, energy graph, seats that can move electronically, etc).
  5. Nice going, pontalba ! I'm going to try and change some of my eating habits too. I plan to eat a bit less carbohydrates and more (cold) vegetables, among other things. We've bought more vegetables than usually, so I look forward to see how I get on. Hopefully it will help me .
  6. I've got Animal Farm on the TBR, and 1984 on my wishlist. PS. Shouldn't this be in the Classics section of the forum, or are his books not considered classics? I have Animal Farm shelved with my classics .
  7. I'm just over half way through Robert Jordan - The Wheel of Time 0: New Spring and am really enjoying it. I had some mojo troubles for a few days but once I finally started to read more than a few pages, I felt how much I enjoy reading so I read quite a bit. The book is quite good so far, and it really makes me want to read the last book in the series. The release date for the paperback is set to be at the end of the year according to some websites, so hopefully it'll be out then.
  8. Thanks ! All of the books are in English, except Unlimited (it's a Dutch book about twelve teenagers telling about their life with their chronic illness) and the Mind Gym ones (these are translated but I couldn't resist, I find with self-help type books it's not as big of a deal if it's in Dutch, though if the English ones had been there I would've bought them instead). I much prefer reading in English, unless the original author is Dutch. These days I mainly read English books rather than Dutch ones. I plan to eventually get rid of all my translated adult books (especially fiction) and replace them with English ones. I haven't read these two Babysitter's Club books before, I've read a lot of the books but unfortunately only half of all of them were translated into Dutch, so I've read what I could at the time and have been trying to buy them in English so I can read the full story (they only translated 1-66 of the normal series, some mystery, two specials and some super specials if I remember correctly). If I can find them at all though in English to be shipped here, it's often expensive to get them delivered so I'm not sure if I'll ever have everything (I'd really like that). I hope they'll release everything for Kindle so I can at least read it that way (even if I prefer paperbacks). It's confusing sometimes because they changed most of the names of all the characters and places for the Dutch translation, so I can't just start off in the middle or it might get confusing. I read the very first book in English (Kirsty's Great Idea) recently and could follow it fine (because I know how the story is supposed to go, I've reread the Dutch one so many times). The Dutch translators did a great job with the books overall. I hope I can keep my Dutch collection of BSC books always! I hope you have fun at the book fair! I don't know if it's like the Dutch one but it sounds fun . I haven't read the rest of Julia Gray's series I'm afraid, I liked the blurb and cover of the book and it was cheap. If I like it, I'll have to see if I can find the other books in the series (or if I come across them cheaply..). I didn't know it was a pseudonym, thanks for telling me about the authors . I've put The Unbalanced Earth on my wishlist. I hope you enjoy Howards End is on the Landing when you read it .
  9. Those are some interesting nicknames! I don't really know a lot of people with nicknames like that.
  10. Ah , thanks for the explanation! I'm glad you're having fun .
  11. Happy Anniversary, Devi ! What's an "op shop"? I haven't heard of this term before . Great haul, I hope you like the new books . Out of those, I have Kafka on the Shore (and an omnibus of Edgar Allen Poe's writings), though I haven't yet read either of those. Are you having fun there?
  12. I think that could work.. Pops, how are you?
  13. x This sounds good! I normally read one or several books in between reading a series, but if you feel like reading the second book I'd say go for it .
  14. That sounds difficult, chaliepud! I think you did the right thing though, drunk driving is very dangerous and people who do it should be stopped immediately. I can understand that it might create a difficult situation for you though. I hope she'll forgive you and see that you did it for her, and other people's, own good.
  15. x I hope you enjoy it !
  16. I look forward to see which ones you bought! I understand, when I feel bad, book shopping helps me too. I think that's not a bad thing as long as one can afford it and it doesn't distract from essential things in life (ie. one should still be able to eat and to concentrate on things). In my case I think it may have gone a bit far, but I hope to be working on that problem in a while (first I need to be less stressed). Anyway.. sorry for rambling. Those prices sound awesome! I hope you enjoy your new books!!
  17. I've also been wondering how to best abbeviate your name, poppyshake. The suggestions here make me giggle . Maybe we should just call you Kay, but then that may confuse people..
  18. Inkheart is on my wishlist, I liked the film and have heard great things about the book. I have Inkspell and would've had Inkdeath but I feared it was too heavy to take in my suitcase so I didn't buy it. I'll have to get around to buying the first and third so that I can read the whole series.
  19. Great review! It's going on the wishlist.
  20. x Thanks ! Yeah, it's great that these books can be given a new home, in my opinion. x x If you get the book, I hope you like it . I liked Howards End is on the Landing a lot more than The Complete Polysyllabic Spree, so I hope you do too.
  21. It must be difficult, having to spend so much time with your puppy. When Boris was younger I found it to be quite difficult, personally. I'm glad you're having fun too, though. 11/22/63 and A Dog's Journey are on my TBR, I look forward to hear what you think of them (when you get around to reading them)! I just ordered Save with Jamie myself! (will post about it when I have it etc). I'm interested in the other two cookbooks you mentioned too, what was the first Hairy Dieters book like? I've not heard much of them, but the second book seems to be in the bestselling charts.
  22. It should be interesting to see what the film will be like. I've read The Tales of Beetle the Bard but not Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (I borrowed the former from someone).
  23. Welcome here !
  24. Nice photos !
  25. x There seem to be quite a few people struggling (myself included but hopefully it won't last long), I wonder why that is.. Great list, poppyshake, I'll have to go through it sometime .
