x My boyfriend has his birthday on the 25th and he's never really liked it. Despite the fact that his birthday is on Christmas he's never been given, when he was young, twice as many presents or anything, he might have been given the same amount as everybody else. He's always had to share his special day with the Christmas meal and the Christmas presents. This year he is here for Christmas and we're going to focus a seperate day on his birthday dinner (traditionally in my family we get to pick one dinner meal for our birthday) and his presents.

Helen Fielding - Bridget Jones 3: Mad About The Boy Genre: Chick-lit Format: Paperback Pages: 390 Synopsis: (no synopsis since it's part of a series) My thoughts: I recently finished the second Bridget Jones book and really loved it, so I was eager to read the third book. This is a great book! It takes place quite a few years after the second one, in 2012-2013. What has happened in between the two books, gradually unfolds over the course of the story. At first I found this a bit difficult, I really wanted to know what had happened! But then things became clearer and clearer, so this was all solved. I really enjoyed reading this book. One thing I missed was, it was not explained what happened with one of the characters from the previous books, or maybe I just missed it. Other than that, I loved all the other characters. It was really interesting to read about them, Bridget in particular. She's such a great character! Since the book takes place in a 'nowadays' setting, technology plays a role in the story and I really enjoyed this. I don't know how it'll stand up in ten or twenty years time, when technology might be all different, but for now it was really enjoyable. I don't read a lot of books that talk about technology like this, it usually doesn't play much of a role in the stories that I read. So I quite enjoyed this contemporary setting (I do read contemporary books, it's just that usually technology doesn't play much of a role or isn't mentioned too much). If you liked the first two Bridget Jones books, you'll like this one too, in my opinion. It's Bridget! I did feel that this book was perhaps slightly more serious than the other two, in parts, but personally I didn't mind this in the least. Overall I highly recommend this book and the series made it onto my favourites list. Rating: ***** (10/10)

It sounds like you had a nice reading year, Ian! I love Hyperion too. I plan to re-read it (in English for the first time) in a while, I just need to get in the mood (the omnibus edition is big and heavy..). I hope your next reading year will be good too .

Google is hoarding robots. Here’s what they may be planning
Athena replied to pontalba's topic in General Chat
Personally I think robots will be very important in our future so I think it's good Google's investing in them. I just hope they do good things with it. EDIT: My dad works a lot with / on robots and was recently in the news on TV to comment on Google's investment. He works on for example an eye surgery robot, a home and care robot (AMIGO), and others. -
All right, most of it is done! You may now post .

Thanks . I hope you get to read some more of her books in 2014, all the ones I've read so far I've loved (though I prefer some over others). I plan to read more by her in 2014 too.

x That's so nice ! My parents met at 13 too I think, and my mum's and dad's parents met their other halves in their teen years as well. (EDIT: Just to clarify, when I mean their other halves, I mean to say that my mum's mother met my mum's father, and my dad's mother met my dad's father, when they were all young. Just in case that caused confusion.)

x Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy it as much as you'd hoped. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying Gulp though .
-
x It sounds good! And yes ! Let's hope we enjoy them, instead. What I do with the quotes is edit them in BBmode, split the quote in ie. two portions, copying the [ quote = name ] and putting that above the second portion. I put a [ / quote ] after the first and second portion. My comments go inbetween the quotes. So you'd have two quotes wrapped in [ quote = name ] and [ / quote ] tags. I don't know if you can follow what I'm saying, just trying to help.

Only if it doesn't cost you too much time and effort , but I'd very much appreciate it.

x Me neither! x x I wouldn't mind it if you did this, it should clarify things.
