I haven't read that one yet (I do own it in paperback), I hope you enjoy it, BB
!

Welcome here
. What kind of books do you like to read?
-
Awww, they look beautiful!
-
Agree with Sarah, your buying habits have really improved greatly!
I know how difficult that is to achieve.
Thank goodness for Library Sales and Estate Sales!!
Thanks Kate, that means a lot to me
.
I agree!

Oh, I'm fine, we've been clearing out that side gallery of all the junk that has accumulated over the years. First it was the room to put what wouldn't fit elsewhere, then cleared some for the cats. So, now it's being cleared out for us.
We bought a second hand couch, chair and huge ottoman for the room yesterday. It's being delivered on Monday, so we have to finish getting the old stuff out of there. After that we will transfer 7 or 8 of the bookcases out there (it's totally closed in) clearing the middle of the living room.
That and too much Netflix.
We've been watching Fringe.
We had a couple of clear days, but more rain is coming.
Well done on doing all that cleaning up! I hope you enjoy the furniture you bought
. It sounds the room will look very nice once it's all done
. I'm glad you've been enjoying Netflix

I did own a lot of books but I gave most to the library. I had many and large bookcases/shelves in our former house but when we moved to our current house there is only one small bookcase. Therefore, I kept the Louie L'Amour books, since there are so many of them, packed in the boxes we used for moving.
That makes sense
, I'm glad you kept the books, though!
-
Now you have me thinking that maybe I will unpack my boxes with all his books in them and do another read of all. They are quick reads.
Why are they in boxes
? Do you own a lot of books and did you run out of space

My book jar has selected The Shock of the Fall by Nathan Filer. At the start of the book it says I should select Publishers Fonts, but that option isn't available on my Kindle for this book. Has anyone else had this with the Kindle version?
My Kindle has never said anything like that for any book, so I'm sorry I can't be of much help
. In my paperbook version, there were sections in a different font (I believe they were like diary entries), could that be maybe why it is asking you that? I hope you will be able to read the book
. I really enjoyed the book, so I hope you will be able to read it and enjoy it.
EDIT: I'm half way now in The Dreaming Void by Peter F. Hamilton, and I'm enjoying it. There are some really nice action scenes in the book and also some scenes that are more slower paced. It's an enjoyable story and I look forward to read the rest of the book, and then the other two books in the Void trilogy.

Got a few days off work now, so looking forward to getting out in the fresh air to try and increase my walking distance. Don't want to waste the days, so I'm going to try and keep busy (and I include reading as keeping busy
). Might go and visit some friends and family as well.
I hope you have some nice days off
.
DS bought me The Hobbit, Battle of the Five Armies and Game of Throne season 1. Looks to be a long weekend so I'm going to sabre them till then! I'm on the library waiting list for GOT but I'm life 100.
I went to a cabaret last not, che' risqué, lol! Unfortunately I couldn't stay inside because the music was just too loud for these old ears and that blasted white strobe light keep finding its way to out table dang near blinding me. Headache city. I'll be better prepared for their next visit.
I hope you enjoy all those things
! I'm sorry the cabaret wasn't so nice

Today is April 24. We are not supposed to get a frost past April 15. So, why does the weather forecast say there is a good chance of frost tonight. I wonder if I should talk to all my tomato plants, pepper plants, etc and tell them to ignore any frost as it isn't supposed to occur after April 15.
I do not want to have to buy all new plants and go through the planting job again.
Oh no, I hope you don't get any more frost now, until the autumn / winter season
! Our small plants (that we just planted last month) are in the conservatory ('serre' as we say), so they will be okay. We haven't had any frost the past week, but it has been a few degrees above 0 °C some of the time, at night. I hope your plants will be okay
.
This Monday it's King's Day here, so it will be busy in most places. I don't plan on going out myself, because it would be too busy for me. There are a lot of activities going on, so I hope for nice weather for the people, and children, who do go somewhere.
I've done a lot of chores this morning and am now sitting down and browsing the forum. I hope to do some reading later today.

Yesterday we re-watched Evan Almighty. According to Wikipedia, the film got mostly negative reviews. Personally, I quite liked it, and I liked seeing it again. I really like Steve Carell, and also Lauren Graham is in it, who I now recognise from Gilmore Girls.

It should cool down a bit over the next few days in Bedfordshire, where I live. I'm off to Barcelona at the weekend until Tuesday next week at there is rain forecast for Monday
I hope you enjoy your holiday
.
Mostly not so nice weather is predicted for the next while, here. Today is going to be the last 'nice' weather day in a while, the weatherpeople say
. It looks good, at the moment.

I loved the little details like that, Chrissy

Hehe. I know what you mean! I put off reading Terry Pratchett for years because I was afraid I'd like the Discworld series and want to buy them all. Eventually I gave in... and now I've bought them all!
I can totally relate
. I'm glad you enjoy the Discworld books
. How many of them have you read? I'm about half way I think, and I believe I own them all except the last one.
Yes, the same Abby.
I don't think she'd mind, otherwise I guess she wouldn't have suggested that I could use it, but I still feel a bit bad. I'm sure there are many cats named Jasper around the place though.
Which reminds me...there was a dog named Jasper in Rebecca!
Awww

Started both Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren and Northanger Abbey by Val McDermid this morning … yep, it's one of those days!
I've read Pippi Lockstocking (or Pippy Langkous in Dutch) when I was a child (I don't remember much of it), and I want to read it again some day (I bought it last year at a library sale). Have you read it before? I hope you enjoy both books
.
-
Thanks.
It was actually Abby's idea. I put out a request on Facebook at the time to ask for suggestions for literary-type names. One friend suggested Mr Darcy and Abby suggested Jasper. I really liked both, but I tried 'Jasper' out first, and it seemed to suit him. I might reserve Mr Darcy (or just Darcy) for another cat in the future.
The other friend (a girl I used to work with) has a cat named Boo (after Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird).
Now Abby has a beautiful cat named Winny, and I'm wondering whether I 'stole' the name Jasper from her, because I knew she had always liked the name for a cat.
Darcy sounds good too
, and Winny is a great name as well, as is Boo
. The Abby you mean is the same one that's here on this forum? I hope she won't mind that you did that
. I haven't seen her much around here lately, I hope she is okay.

Thanks Athena.
I think you'll enjoy both the Stieg Larsson and Jasper Fforde books. Have you read much in the crime genre before? I don't remember seeing it pop up too much on your reading lists. Jasper Fforde is a clever writer with an awesome imagination.
I read a lot in the crime genre when I was a teenager, but nowadays much less so to be honest. I still enjoy it every once in a while, I think about 10% of my reading this year so far has been in the genre (I call it 'detective' and 'thriller', because that's what we use in Dutch.). I would like to read those books eventually (that's why I bought them), but they don't have an as high priority on my list as some other books. Also, with Jasper Fforde I'm worried I will like the three books I have so much, that I will want to buy the rest in the series, which I can't afford really
.

The weatherpeople predicted it would be bad weather today and in the next week, but after a cloudy morning (where I saw a beautiful sun this morning through the fog and clouds during my dogwalk), it is now somewhat sunny and better than was predicted
.

I hope you enjoy the book
!

Awww, I'm sorry you're feeling so bad about it
. You could try reading a few pages, see how that goes? An audiobook is an option but it would cost you more. You could try to watch a video on Youtubem a free audiobook (I don't know about the quality of this as I have my audio turned off, perhaps the narrators are volunteers so they might not sound as good as the professionals, I'm not sure of that.). You could listen to something like this for a little while, to see if the story is interesting enough to keep going (ie. if you think you like what you're hearing and want something more professional, you could buy the audio book).
If you don't like the book after a little while though, or if you don't like the audiobook either, then maybe it'd be best to read something instead that you think you will enjoy. Reading should be fun after all (unless one needs to read something for school, university or job or such).

Rankings, ratings, it's all the same - just a general idea of preferences is all I was going for
And that sounds awesome! We could do a little group read, and maybe even try drag some other people into it!
I just bought the book for my kindle.
I'm happy you two want to join us
!

Hey Kate, how are you doing? I hope your weather clears up soon.

Next up, the jar has thrown out an English Counties Challenge book … Wuthering Heights
I really didn't like it when I read it years ago, but maybe I've grown up and can appreciate it more now. Fingers crossed
I hope you get on with it better this time.
I finished Don't Let Me Go by Catherine Ryan Hyde, really loved it. Review to follow. I've a few choices now, might stick with the adult fiction for a bit, so I've started Burial Rites by Hannah Kent, will see how it goes. After that might go back to YA for a little bit.
Also in a charity shop today, I found Inkheart by Cornelia Funke for 3 euro. I gave away my copy of it to someone a couple years back, and haven't had one since, so it's nice to have a copy of one of my favourite books back in my possession
I hope you enjoy your new book
! I have the trilogy on my TBR but I haven't read them yet.
In a big rut right now. Never in the mood to read and every other night is playoff hockey, so that's three hours or more spent. I'm sure I'll get it back eventually but right now I'm just blehhh.
I hope you will feel more like reading soon.
I'll be interested what you say because we have sort of have the same taste and this is on the short list for my trip
Actually, I hope the 5 weeks go by quick because my list keeps growing
Read all day in Phillip K. Dick's A Scanner Darkly. Enjoying it A LOT! Was supposed to read it with Athena, lagging behind because of illness
Haha, I recognise that
.
Don't worry, I'll still be happy to discuss it even if you are a bit later with finishing it
.
I'm on page 306 out of 796 in Peter F. Hamtilon: The Void Trilogy 1: The Dreaming Void, so far I'm enjoying it. I'm not sure yet how some of the characters / story lines are connected to one another, but I'm sure I'll find out in due time. I also read some more in the couple of information books I'm reading.

Hey, UndertheDome! I have ADD too, but gladly for me reading isn't as much of a problem (watching TV though or playing video games or following conversations much more so). Short stories or novellas might be good for you, or perhaps re-reading a childhood favourite? I don't read much horror / thrillers though and I don't know the authors you mentioned so I don't really have any recommendations I can think of at the moment

Yesterday we re-watched Ratatouille. I've seen it quite a few times now, but it remains such a nice film
