Yes,yes,yes!

Read this series, it is absolutely amazing. I finished the last book of the series a couple of days ago and I still havent quit thinking about it! It is by far my favorite series I've ever read.

Read these books or you will regret it.

Time to resurrect an old thread of mine! I eventually got to listen to the 1st Percy Jackson book, and really liked it. I did annoyed with the way they kept walking into danger without thinking, but I can let that go. The funny thing is, I watched the film recently, and that made me realise how much detail was in the book. I'm usually able to keep my books and films separate, but I couldn't help but feel disappointed with the amount of stuff left out.

The good thing is, after watching the film, Beth has decided to listen to the book on her ipod, and seems to be liking it. I'm halfway through the second book on mine, and it's just as good.

For those interested in the audio version, I would have to say that the guy reading them has got to be one of the best narrators I've listened to. He does the other characters so well, even the female ones.

I read the first and second books and enjoyed them. I thought the film was awful and so did my hubby. Dale hadn't read the book at all and the moment the guilty party came onscreen, before they even opened their mouth, Dale said "That's the one - that's the baddie!" and you know what? He was spot on! Now if someone who knows nothing about the story can spot that immediately, there's something very wrong with the direction of the film!

I did plan on reading any more of the books as they came out, but never got round to picking up where I left off and the film kind of put me off too, to be honest. :(

I have read the first two books and I loved them.

I watched the film on Sunday and I was utterly disspaointed. Even though the three other people (Two 8 year olds and my best mate) thought the film was good)

There are many thngs different from the book.

The film is pale in comparison. To the people who have watched the films and not read the books, please please pelase read the books. You will be in for some/ many surprises that are not in the film.

I've now listened to the whole series, and it's been great. I love the idea of the demigods, and Camp Half-Blood sounds great (and nothing like it's portrayed in the film!) Percy and Annabeth are good main characters, but I certainly had a soft spot for Tyson. :)

Unfortunately my least favourite was the final one, although I'm not sure why. It certainly wraps up nicely, and it has lots of interesting points.. but I think the battle dragged on a bit too much.

I would certainly recommend the series, and as I said before, if you like audio books, the narrator is just fantastic!

I keep meaning to read these 'cos I enjoyed the film so much. I thought it would be a Harry Potter rip off, but I enjoyed how they swapped typical British locations with American ones to give it a fresh feel (e.g., instead of a boarding school, they had a summer camp; instead of pubs and castles they had Mount Olympus in the Empire State Building, Hades under Hollywood, and the legend of the Lotus-Eaters transposed to a casino). The books are definitely on my list!

The thing I like most about this series is the story of the Greek Myths turned modern day and stated in a way that appeals to a younger generation who would otherwise not be interested. Substitute Percy for a lot of the heroes that came out of Olympus and we are basically reading the stories again. I really enjoyed what Riordan does with the characters and how he sets everything up initially. I happened to watch the movie and to anyone who felt it wasn't that great I would definitely say to read the books. I think my favorite part is toward the end of the series, but I did laugh at who Percy meets in the elevator of the first book given the background of his and Annabeth's parents. A fun and easy way to introduce anyone to the Greek Myths of yesterday.

I'm currently reading Battle of the Labyrinth (the fourth book) and really enjoying it so far. Has any one read The Red Pyramid, also by Rick Riordan? It's the first of a series called The Kane Chronicles which is kind of similar to the Percy Jackson books but this time it's Egyptian mythology. The second book is out soon.

I have indeed read The Red Pyramid, and my review is here.. http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/7149-the-red-pyramid-by-rick-riordan/page__p__224739__hl__pyramid__fromsearch__1#entry224739 I have to say, as much as I liked it, I still prefer the Percy Jackson books. Have you read Heroes of Olympus yet? I'd highly recommend that. :)

I'm up to the last one but so far i've loved them! the mythology, strong characters and good plots made them so hard to put down.

Plus who wouldn't love Tyson the big sweet heart. And the relationship btwn percy and annabeth is so good, it's realistic (most teens don't confess their undying love) and it didn't overwhelm the story.
