Hello all from a new member

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

my name is Matthew Pritchard and I am a crime writer. My debut novel, Scarecrow, (Salt Publishing) is out on September
15th.

The main reason I became a writer is because I have always loved being a reader, so I am looking forward to
participating on this forum and reading users’ opinions.

Who are my favourite crime authors? Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler would be right up there, along with
Elmore Leonard and Ian Rankin. I tend to favour books with good, strong, human
characters and hate it when the protagonists are either too perfect or too
flawed.

What do I consider the best work from the above four maestros?

Hammett – The Dain Curse

Chandler – Farewell, My Lovely

Leonard – anything he’s written

Rankin – Black and Blue (one of the few books I’ve read in a single (albeit very sore-bottomed!) sitting)

Anyway, this is just to say hello and I look forward to speaking with you.

Cheers

Matthew Pritchard
