  1. The biggest intrigue for me was the lady and the girl whose fortune angela read, who saved rorans life accompanied by a random boy. What was that about?? I thought the roran thing was him using the time he defeated 100 men on his own as bravado to scare them off?
  2. ooh I'm so glad you have read Inheritance, now I have someone to talk to!!! yay! For me, I felt there were a lot of open ends that frustrated me and I don't understand why Eragon can't ever come back?? Not even for a holiday?!
  3. aww I don't see Inheritance on your TBR...
  4. I found a copy of When God Was a Rabbit on the train a few months ago, and it was one of the best finds, so funny! Have you had the nativity play yet?? I have gotten about halfway through Wuthering Heights, and I am struggling. I am not a classic reader at all, but my friend is working her way through them, having just read all of Jane Austen and I thought maybe it was time to give them another go as I havent read any since school. Anyways, needless to say it is not going well!
  5. Hey Ben That's great news, looking forward to having someone to discuss it with! I don't want to spoil it for you so I won't say much, but there are some definite loose ends/plot holes left!
  6. Seeing this topic has made me jump to the karate kid remake...oh dear. I really hope that they leave the classic 80s movies alone, imagine a remake of The Goonies or The Mighty Ducks...
  7. Hello there peeps! I have just returned from Oz where I have been on holiday, and whilst I was away I worked my way through Inheritance by Christopher Paolini, the fourth Eragon book. I was wondering if anyone else has read it yet as am keen to discuss it and no one in my real world reads fantasy so am looking to talk to someone in my virtual world instead! :sign0163:

    Ice Hockey

I blame the lack of coverage on having Dave Simms as the presenter, there is only so much you can take!

    Ice Hockey

I am a big UK ice hockey fan, I support the Nottingham Panthers. They show this on Sky Sports too on a friday night, they have a highlights show and then show a live game once every couple of months.
  10. I love Bones too Anyone know when the new series is on?
  11. First thing that jumps to mind is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, although perhaps a little obvious, it is an excellent exploration of human morality and in particular, racism.
  12. Welcome Lynda Can't believe you are a chick lit fan who likes Irish authors and you haven't mentioned Maeve Binchy or Cecilia Ahern (or is that because you hate them lol).
  13. This might be an incredibley girly thing to do, but I have a file on my computer for all my favourite quotes (most of them from books) that I add to whenever I come across one that makes me pause. This doesn't happen ever so often, but that makes the ones that do even more meaningful. For instance, the last two; It didn’t feel like the pain had weakened over time, rather that I’d grown strong enough to bear it. Bella, New Moon – Stephanie Meyer I realised that maybe the need to be remembered is stronger than the need to remember Elly, When God Was a Rabbit - Sarah Winman :sign0163:
  14. I have to admit that the majority of my books are hand me downs from my dad, he is excellent at choosing books that are to my taste. They are a mixute of new and old authors. Other than that I am inspired by other peoples reviews and recommendations. I am not too bothered whether I have come away learning something or having understood the moral of the story. For instance, I love The Time Travellers Wife and think that the plot device is excellent, however I haven't come away from it knowing anything new about the world. just perhaps myself
  15. I would recommend you take a look at Michelle Moran
  16. Writing this down, I can barely believe that I have managed this but I have been using the same Narnia bookmark since I was about 12. Over the years (although not too many I hasten to add), there have been others that have come and gone but I always have this one sat on my shelf as my old faithful, which I have stuck to solidly for the past 2 or 3 years. It is brown and on one side has the words Narnia, with each letter decorated like you sometimes see on the first letter of a chapter (hope you understand what I mean by that!) Then on the back it has a list of all the books. Randomly, I seem to think that the headmaster of the school where my dad teaches gave it to me!
  17. My favourite thing about Little Women is that episode of Friends where Joey reads it and puts it in the freezer because Beth is really, really sick
  18. I am not an iphone user but that one app is severely tempting me...
  19. I love this idea! I am trying really hard to think of some for you, I always used to think that The Famous Five used to eat some really odd things, I suppose that is the era that the books are set though. (tinned sardines and ginger beer as a midnight feast is not my idea of heaven!)
  20. Especially as Pride and Prejudice has one of the most famous opening lines of all time... 'It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.'
  21. I was reading yesterday that E4 have more money to spend on new programming this year as they haven't renewed their licence to show Friends, so from September they have over 1000 hours to fill from the space Friends leaves (moving to Comedy Central if anyone wants to know) I have mixed emotions about this, as I love just watching Friends whenever I have 10 minutes to fill, it is so familiar like a blanket! And the levels of humour always amazes me. But equally, it will force me to take in some new programmes that I might otherwise miss out on, How I Met Your Mother is a prime example, this is about to show its seventh season and I have only just discovered it! Anyways, New Girl is definately on my list to watch, love Zooey in 500 Days of Summer!
  22. Did anyone else see that documentary she did where she was followed round whilst she was writing the Deathly Hallows and up to it being released? That finished with her in the cafe in Edinburgh where she was writing a new book, which she described as a political fairytale. It also had this bit where she explained what she thought happened to everyone after the series ended, who married who and what their kids names were. It was amazing!
  23. Does anyone know if this has been picked up in the UK at all? I am also excited about Apartment 23 if anyone has heard of it! (James Van Der Beek) I love that all these 90's stars are reappearing, how good is it to see Zack back in Franklin and Bash!!!
  24. I have only recently discovered How I Met Your Mother, I thought nothing could over take my love of Friends but I am rapidly becoming obsessed with it! I think my favourite show of all time was Dawsons Creek, I so loved it! Ever since I have always watched those American teen dramas and I am full of them now, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, Glee, One Tree Hill. I hate it when you start to watch a show and it gets cancelled, I really get invested in the characters and I hate it when there is no resolution!
  25. I felt like that at school, a resistance to read a book because it had been chosen for me. But then the story over took that feeling in some cases, and I am grateful now as I can honestly say that I would never have read or discovered some amazing books if I hadn't been forced to.
