  1. I didn't actually see how much the postage was. I think I remember that Bert's Books (the one I posted about at the top of the page) has free postage but then they don't have the discount that bookshop.org has.
  2. Weirdly, this was the one I thought sounded really interesting on your list! Maybe it's a sign that I should get it . That few!? Good idea! Maybe you could keep updating on here anyway though? Anybody else doing the round the world challenge can use it to help them pick the books then. Plus I've found some books I'd never otherwise have heard of from this thread!
  3. Oh yeah that would have been a good idea...
  4. It's a good one actually. I like Wilkie Collins. It's basically about a very happy Victorian family with two daughters and then the parents die (that's not a spoiler it's right at the beginning) and the daughters discover they never got married (which means their daughters don't inherit anything). One of the daughters just accepts it and starts trying to find work but the other is really not having any of it. She teams up with a notorious swindler, has a pretty crazy time and it sort of becomes a question of how far she's willing to go to get their parents money and house back. I really want to know what book you've chosen now!
  5. Aww, how many left to go? Any particular favourites from your more recent ones?
  6. Is... that the clue? Is it Wilkie Collins' No Name?
  7. Hi Joan, welcome to the forum!
  8. Oh wow that would add up! I have used World of Books a couple of times in the past though and they've always been good. I can't remember if I already posted about this (I don't think I did) but I've ordered from an indie bookshop in Wales a couple of times during the lockdown, ( book-ish.co.uk ) and I've noticed they have postage to Europe as an item to add to cart on there. I think I was about £5 if I remember correctly. Did everyone see the new bookshop website that opened a few months ago? I can't remember if we talked about it already! It's the same concept as Hive really but it's meant to give a lot more money to the indie bookshops and still has a small discount. I haven't tried it yet. This was one of the articles about it when it started... A new website for independent bookshops is just what the industry needs | Booksellers | The Guardian .
  9. I have The Princess Bride on my shelf, good to know I'll need to be patient at the start! Oooh can we have clues?
  10. I loved this, I was sad when it was over! I'm very excited to start. I have a feeling, just from this, that I will also love Indigo .
  11. Does she!? I cant remember! I have absolutely no idea but I'd like to find out . Definitely agree. And I quite like that as well. Like...
  12. Oops, sorry, I got distracted yesterday! There once was a cat with no tail
  13. That is a good point. Although I suppose she might write even though she doesn't speak? Something written from Nightingale's perspective on how he met her and what he knows about her background would be good too.
  14. Yes, definitely! I do really want to know more about Molly and what exactly she is, but I suspect that's going to slowly come in to the main novels. To be honest though he could release a novella about literally any of the characters and I'd still read it
  15. There was a young lady from Spain Who laughed while she danced in the rain And sang in the sunshine Declared "All cakes are now mine!" For she had a marvellous brain. [this girl has her priorities right ]
  16. Ooooooh, well spotted! I'm looking forward to an Agent Reynolds story, I think that's going to be some really interesting background to the series. We already know quite a bit about Nightingale (although I will look forward to that one too!) I'm trying to save What Abigail Did That Summer, at least until I've finished the book I'm currently reading, but I'm so tempted to just read it straight away!
  17. I do not know what you're suggesting here. That actually looks very appealing! I'm finding it hard to imagine butter, rather than icing, under the sprinkles though... That's brilliant . Speaking of dachshund dreams, once, when I went camping, I was wondering around trying to find the person I was meant to pay (it was on a working farm) when, out of a side door, a whole pack of tiny dachshund puppies just flooded around my legs. It was the cutest chaos. This just reminded me of it!
  18. Hey! I will have you know we have very strong teeth here in Birmingham because our water has extra flouride... That makes sense. Maybe easier to get a neat edge too? I don't think I've ever heard of hundreds and thousands with butter. I do vividly remember cutting circles out of bread and sticking them together with a bit of mixed icing (so they'd look a bit like a layered cake) and then putting sprinkles on and eating it... but I don't remember why. I guess that could have been Fairy Bread? It might just be because I was a weird child though .
  19. Great reviews and a good run of enjoyable books! (A shame about The Motion of the Body Through Space, that doesn’t sound good at all).
  20. I was ordering a couple of books from this shop the other day and noticed that they now have a sale section with some really good discounts: SALE – book-ish.co.uk (book-ish.co.uk)
  21. I love dachshunds and I love that picture! That is a very happy dog in action That isn't dull! I'd love to grow my own vegetables. I did try carrots in a small space once but I didn't realise the soil type mattered and they came out all weird and curly . If you think that's bad, both my parents have assured me that sugar sandwiches (literally just butter and sugar) were a perfectly normal treat when they were kids. I can only assume it was a weird Birmingham thing . Do you have to make all the squares separately and then connect them to do that? Like a quilt? It's very pretty.
  22. This makes me nervous just thinking about it . It has been so windy and so changeable today. One minute it was blue sky and sunny and the next pouring rain. I spoke to someone who doesn’t live far from me that even saw a bit of snow. Spring weather is weird.
  23. I forgot it was out so soon! Going to pre-order it now
