Hey Echo. I hope you're okay. I was sorry to read about your mum's diagnosis. I hope that moves can be made to help her and that you are coping alright with this news. Take care, eh? :friends0:

  2. Wahey! Hae a wee dram fuh me, lass...hmmm, that was terrible...enjoy your weekend!

Hello Polly. Welcome to the forum. It's ace here. I noticed you're a 2nd Dan Black Belt. I, too, attend Karate lessons, but am rubbish as I've only just started (2nd Orange only, I'm afraid), but I'm loving it. Hope you like it here. Everyone's really nice and normal, and those that aren't are swiftly booted off. Good, eh? It is addictive, though, so be warned! :D

  4. I'm currently reading The Piano Tuner by Daniel Mason. Really beautiful book, quite idiosyncratic in it's prose at times. I'm loving it. I'll do a thingy on it in the Mac Reads 2009 what-sit when I've done. I hope you're having a smashing time. Pip pip. :D

  5. Thought I'd pop over and say 'Hi there!'. So. Hi there. I hope you're very well.

Sorry about that. Couldn't help myself. I'm going to stick my head in a bucket of water now. :D

  7. He'll love it too. Put it in his lap. It'll occupy him for hours!

  8. The Crow Road isn't one of his sf/fantasy novels. He writes those under Iain M Banks. However, your purchase of this book will not be a poor one, for it is a truly wonderful book. The father of the protagonist is a character I identify with - he holds similar points of view to me. I loved the novel. I'm sure you will, too. Ask your fella about it. He'll confirm my judgement.

I hope this finds you very well, my friend. Cheers!

  9. They both write amusing rom-coms from a male perspective. It's a topic I would usually avoid with skill, but my mother made me read 'em, because she knew I'd like 'em. And, to be fair, I did. They're very funny. Check 'em out! I hope you're having an ace day. I've been to Waterstones and bought a barrow load of books. Can't help myself when I'm in there, dammit.

  10. Alright, mate? How're things?

  11. Hello there, Bethany. Have you ever heard of a writer called Mil Millington? Or David Nicholls? These are two chaps whom you may well enjoy. i hope you are well and having fun!

  12. Hi Jo. Hope you're well. RE: Perfume, the book adapted well to film, partly because the casting is excellent. It's beautifully shot and the images are quite visceral. It still evokes strong sensory imagery. You'll like it, or I'll eat my hat (don't worry, I have several as a back up).

  13. That read much worse than it was supposed to. :lurker::blush: I meant that my laptop wouldn't allow me back on the web. I really need to vet what I type prior to stabbing the 'go' key...

Hope you're excellent, my friend. :friends0:

  14. I am, as you say, your human TBR pile. Ask for suggestions and I shall supply. I wonder what would happen if one of the books I recommend turns out to be s**te? Maybe my hard-drive would shut down and wouldn't be able to boot back up...

  15. I loved the film of Perfume as well. I thought Ben Whishaw was perfect for the role. Interestingly enough, I do sound a little like Guy Garvey. My songs and his seem very similar, which is why I probably like them. When I first heard of them in 2001, I thought 'Bloody hell, that sounds like me!' I had 13 songs published in 1999 which were bandied around several artists and they remain in their portfolios to this very day. So one never knows one's luck, I might one day be 'quids in', so to speak.

How're things over the pond, lady? How're you? *waves frantically with a comic touch*

  16. Evening. You, out of everybody, will love Patrick Suskind's Perfume. Go for it. You shall not be disappointed. Hope you're very well, lady!

  17. Good morning, my friend. I hope this finds you very well. *waves like a loony*

  18. Have a lovely, quiet one then. They say that cleanliness is next to godliness, although I'm pretty sure that cleanliness is next to cleanse in the OED...

  19. I'm toddling off down South at around 10am to check out some prospective placements for a chap I advocate for. A busy couple of days ahead. How about yourself? 'Owt good going on? :D

  20. Morning, lady! I hope this finds you well and enjoying any Easter Break that has been granted unto you. How're the Shakespearean studies going? I love the fella and have done so since my rather eccentric Eng. Lit. teacher transferred his passion onto me (not in a freakish, man-love, 'oh my God, that's like, so weird' way, just with his enthusiasm - phew, glad we got that cleared up...).

I'm beginning a degree in October on Philosophy and Classical Studies, which will be exciting. Thought you might not be too disinterested with this information, but you never know...

    Have a great day. :D

  21. Morning again, Lexie! :D

Hi Paula. I've not read that one, so I'm off to purchase it today! I'm out and about down South over the next couple of days in Suffolk and Essex, so I'll drop into a shop and pick a copy up. I love the guy. I notice that we'd have been in the same school year. What did you make of it? I hated it until my GCSE year, then it got much better in sixth form. There you are. Some useless info on me. Hope you're well! :friends0:

  23. I am, as you say, reading The Piano Tuner and I'm loving it. Quite idiosyncratic in it's style, which I enjoy. I hope you have a good day! :D

  24. I'm tip-top and raring to go, many thanks. I hope you have a splendid one as well. My computer is being a bit naughty this morning.

  25. Morning, Lexie! Thought I'd just say hi before I went to work. Hope you're okay! *waves frantically*
