And I just realised that I missed your birthday while I was in my post-op haze of pain! So I hope you had a really nice birthday Kylie! :balloons:

  2. Mia

Thanks Kylie! It's three weeks now since the op and I'm finally starting to feel a bit better. I have another week off work so I hope to get out and about a bit (if the snow ever stops). How are you doing?

  3. Book Two sounds a bit like Tomorrow When the War Began, by John Marsden. I've only read it once, so details are hazy, but I think there were more kids. Kylie loves these books, so she'll probably know!
  4. I saw this, it was very good indeed. Very interesting and full of Terry's humour, with lots of sensible ideas in my opinion. I expected it to be Terry reading it, but that wasn't possible due to his Alzheimers, so it was read by Tony Robinson (Baldrick). Tony did an absolutely superb job. I don't know if he had an autocue (I couldn't see one), but he never even looked down at his notes once, he just spoke Terry's words as if he'd memorised the whole thing. Truly excellent. Terry was also on the One Show tonight. I don't know if he was on to talk about Alzheimers, assisted dying or his writing, as I taped it and haven't seen it yet.
  5. I watched last night's ep and am glad to see that Glee is back to its usual high standard! It was really good. I loved the bit with the football team dancing - hilarious. And Curt dancing up to take his kick.

    Happy Birthday! :balloons:

  7. I'm happy to hear someone else likes Rose Madder apart from me! It doesn't seem to be one of his most liked books, but I really enjoyed it.
  8. I was really disappointed with last night's episode. I loved the first two, but this one just bored me. I hope it goes back to its usual high standard!
  9. There's a couple of ads for beds that make me laugh (I don't know if they're both for the same company). There's the one where the couple are in bed and springs are popping up on the wife's side - the husband just smirks until one comes up on his side. His pained expression and the "ooh!" tell you where it's gone!! The other one is where the fluffy ginger cat gets catapulted (no pun intended) up in the air by the mattress spring! (Sorry to all you cat lovers!)
  10. Happy Birthday!

  11. I thought I heard something about a Sunday afternoon repeat, but I don't know any details.
  12. Just to off people like me, I think!
  13. I'm sticking with it so far. I want to know when it's coming back - there was a trailer last night but it just said "Coming Soon". Grr.
  14. I love this show! It's great, with a lot of humour. I saw the pilot before Xmas and then watched it again with the next episode on Monday. The portrayal of the High School "caste" system reminded me of Buffy. Are American High Schools really like that? Everyone's so cruel! I was so glad when the football guy stepped in to save the disabled guy they'd locked in the portaloo. I like the main teacher guy - isn't his wife a nightmare? "I'm on my feet four hours a day, three days a week here!" And to deceive him how she is... Can't wait for the next episode.
  15. I quite like that one, I remember all the classic ads he comes out with! I don't like the Evian babies one, it's creepy. The bed one where the spring goes and the cat gets catapulted up in the air makes me laugh.

    Dr Who

I watched the final episode for the second time last night, and it was just as emotional for me as the first time. I forgot to say before that the plot twist regarding "he will knock four times" was brilliant. Everyone had that sussed, yeah yeah, it's the Master who will knock, and then... Superb acting from David as he realises he's still alive and just begins to relax and be happy - a second later the four knocks sound and it's WILF!! A brilliant but heartbreaking twist. I thought the Doctor was rather bitter and petulant in his rant at this point, but it was understandable. I actually thought at one point that he wasn't going to save Wilf. That bit had me in tears, with Wilf telling the Doctor to leave him. *sniff*

    Dr Who

Some good points there in your post. I was a bit slow, it took me a few moments to realise that I totally agree, I forgot about this bit. In fact (being slow again) I didn't I didn't really mind the self-indulgence. I thought it wrapped everything up nicely Anyway, there may be some logical reasoning behind all this that I haven't spotted (being slow again), but when exactly

    Dr Who

I wasn't at all impressed with the first part - the word that summed it up for me was "bonkers". Just what was RTD on when he wrote that? It was rather a disappointment. And the Master in a dress is just ridiculous. The second part however... I watched that today and it was like it was written by another person; it was so much better. I really enjoyed it. And I cried... and cried. The bits where I got upset weren't the bits I expected to get so upset at though, it was weird. When Tennant's saying that he doesn't want to go, I'm being very unsympathetic and shouting at the TV, "Well, you didn't have to! It's your own bloody fault for deciding to leave!" But I was getting very upset about Wilf, Donna etc... It had more endings than the last LOTR film, but I didn't mind at all. I'm so glad Not knowing much Dr Who backstory, I didn't realise that the Time Lords were such insane nutters. I thought it was very telling and clever that Brilliant acting by all the cast (even Billie Piper had got rid of that annoying lisp), especially by Tennant, who I really rate as an actor anyway, and Mr Cribbins. Although growing up Tom Baker was my Doctor, my favourite will always be David Tennant. I'm afraid Matt Smith is going to have to work very hard to win me over, I'm sorry but I don't like the look of him, he's too young and rather strange looking. Harsh, but I'm afraid that's what I think.
  19. I haven't read the book, so I can't compare it to that, but it was pretty poor. I hated Dougray Scott as the lead - he's got one of those low, monotone voices and I couldn't tell what he was saying half the time. Eddie Izzard - I can't stand him anyway. The Triffids themselves were of the sub-Dr Who effects circa1960s type, pathetic rubber things that were laughable. I'd have thought that in this day and age of CGI etc they could have done something better. What did I like about it? Er... The second episode was better than the first (not difficult), but all in all it was pretty dire. I expected so much more.

    Emmerdale

Hmm, good point! Zac is really annoying me at the moment, being all uppity about Lisa doing the nude modelling to get the money for Belle's laptop. I don't see that lazy scrote doing anything to try and get any money, and then he slags Lisa off for actually working to get their daughter's pressie. Grr. Well, it's all kicking off with Ryan/Maisie and Mark/Faye. Should get very interesting!
  21. I must be the only person who thinks that advert is sick. I wish they would ban it. I'm obviously too sensitive for my own good.
  22. I'm really pleased that Chris and Ola won! It kind of goes against my principles in that Chris wasn't the best dancer, but as the best dancer (Ali) had already gone out of the competition I decided I could throw my principles to one side! I thought they made a great couple. Chris just seemed like a nicer bloke than Ricky somehow, and I'm so pleased for Ola as she is one of my favourite pro dancers. Bless her, she couldn't stop crying with happiness. Aww. I loved their Charleston, it just put a big smile on my face. I think everyone expected Ricky to win, so I was most pleased when he didn't! All in all though, I have been quite disappointed with this series, and found it pretty lacklustre. I didn't even know who most of the celebrities were when they were announced. Also, after giving Alesha the benefit of the doubt for the whole series, I've decided that she just doesn't work as a judge. Nothing against her personally, I wanted her to win when she danced, but she's not exactly full of informative comment or constructive criticism, is she? Even I could sit there and say "You was wicked!" Bring back Arlene!!
  23. Yes, I feel the same way about this series. There's just something really compelling about it, you have to keep on reading. It's definitely for more "mature" young adults, especially the themes of the second one, which include terrorism and the subjugation of women. I finished the second one (The Ask and the Answer) a few weeks ago after reading it very quickly - I couldn't put it down. It's pretty uncompromising and quite horrific what happens to the women and the Spackle (who are the species native to the planet). Wolfsbane - it's true that you think "what could possibly go wrong now?"! Just when things seem to be working out, something bad happens. I can't wait for the third book either, and I can't recommend this series highly enough. I wish more people had heard of it. A short thread about the first book can be found here: http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=6910&highlight=knife+letting (Hope I did that right, I've never tried putting a link in before.)
