I think The Artist will win Best Picture, and that Jean DuJardin will win Best Actor. Agree that Meryl Streep will probably win for The Iron Lady, but I'm also not ruling out Michelle Williams for My Week With Marilyn. I would like Kenneth Brannagh to win Best Supporting Actor as well, but not sure if he will.

I'm amazed that The Adventures of Tintin hasn't been nominated for best animated feature .. how odd.

I think Meryl will win best actress but I haven't seen any of the nominated films. I fancy seeing The Artist .. that looks phenomenal.

I'm shocked that Andy Serkis wasn't nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his work on Rise of the Planet of the Apes. He was absolutely superb in that. I've seen footage of him ni his motion capture get-up and he acted his socks off in that role, giving an awesome performance.

 

I also can't understand why a coupl eof the animated films nominated are from 2010, rather than 2011...

I'd like to see Gary Oldman win best actor, but I'm sure it'll be the Artist actor who'll take it. Also, I'm not quite sure why Jonah Hill was nominated for supporting actor in Moneyball. It was a great movie and he did a fine job, but Oscar-worthy? Hmm...

I would like to see Gary Oldman win Best Actor, but won't mind of Jean DuJardin wins. I REALLY hope that Brad Pitt doesn't win; he's one of the most over-rated actors around.

 

Kell, I agree about Andy Serkis - he always turns in sterling work, no matter what he's in. Never seems to get the recognition he deserves though.

I've just seen Rango and it was fantastic ... I can see it winning best animation .. I still think The Adventures of Tintin ought to have been nominated though.

Can't believe Jonah Hill got a nomination...don't think he has a chance against the veteran (and good) actors like Christopher Plummer, Nick Nolte and Kenneth Brannagh.

 

Still need to see the Artist, think I will wait for it on DVD and get it through LoveFIlm... feel a bit ripped off paying full price at the cinema for it. Gary Oldman is my favourite actor so I would love to see him win, did enjoy him in Tinker, Tailor. But considering I haven't seen the others I can say he deserves it or not.

 

Still can't believe Pixar didn't get any nominations... esp when Kung Foo panda 2 did....

Jonah Hill actualy put in an extremely convincing performance in a complete departure from his usual comedy fare, so I'm glad he's been recognised for it. However, there's not a hope in hell of him winning. Brannagh was superb inMy Week wth Marilyn, but Max von Sydow is the winner for me. He manages to convey so much without speaking a single word and it is definitely the best performance I've seen from any of the supporting actor nominations. (OK, I've only seen 3 of the 5, but still...)

 

I've actually updated my original post stating who I think will win the awards, as I've watched a fair few more of them now than I had when I first posted. I'm surprised to find that across all the categories, I've seen 20 of the nominated films now!
