scottishbookworm Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 I thought I'd add in the name of this writer. Me and my mum sometimes pick up her books! here is her site http://www.cathykelly.com/ her latest title is out now it's called past secrets. Quote
Michelle Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 If you're going to start a thread about an author, can you tell us a little bit about why you like them, favourite books etc.. Quote
Lilywhite Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 I've seen these books about but just never really paid any attention to them. (I know, judging books and all that) Maybe you can convince me Quote
madcow Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 I've read one of her books a couple of years ago. 'Chic lit' springs to mind. Can't remember too much about the book apart from that it was easy to read, not heavy if you get what i mean. Quote
Michelle Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 My experience of Cathy Kelly is that yes, it's 'chick lit', but it's usually about older women. So, rather than a young single woman, and her relationships etc, she writes about older women..they may be single, may have marriage problems, may be divorced etc etc. She also tends to write about a small group of women (either friends or family), and how they interact. They do tend to be quite long, but are easy to read. Quote
scottishbookworm Posted February 22, 2007 Author Posted February 22, 2007 If you're going to start a thread about an author, can you tell us a little bit about why you like them, favourite books etc.. I find her stories heartwarming and they're moving. I was the first one that read her books then I loved them so much, and because mum had lost dad she also lost the interest in picking up books so I said to her here's someone you will like and she looked a the book I gave her 2 weeks later it was finished. she said then "IF She has a new book out that would be lovely for my birthday!" I said okay then. then when it was her birthday I did what I promised bought her a Cathy Kelly book (Always and forever) and she loved it. Quote
princessponti Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 I don't know these books, but the author's name makes me think of Cathleen Kelly in the movie 'You got mail' (all time favourite feel better movie). Are the books anything like this movie? ..if so, I'll read them!! Quote
Angel Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 I like Cathy Kelley, her books are easy to read. I like the way she concentrates on just 2 or 3 women and explores how they interact with each other. The women tend to be likeable and based on real life issues - coping with aging parents, teenagers, divorce and being single Looking forward to her latest which has come out in paperback Quote

Angel Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 I've been dropping hints about it since it came out but DH thinks my TBR pile needs to be reduced a bit! Quote
DaddysGem Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Best of Friends is the only book by Cathy Kelly that i have read, it was a good book though. I like the way there is more than one main characters. Quote
scottishbookworm Posted September 30, 2008 Author Posted September 30, 2008 Has anyone else discovered Cathy Kelly? I have read most of her books and I always really enjoy them. Cathy Kelly is a contemporary Irish writer who explores many of the issues that modern women have to face. To anyone looking for chicklit I would recommend her books! My DH has just given me one of her books - Lessons in Heartbreak my mum reads her books. My favourite female writer is marian keyes Quote
