Ruth Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Have you read the book Timstar? I read it before seeing the film (big mistake). Loved the book, hated the film.
Ruth Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 I watched my first ever Marx brothers movie yesterday: Duck Soup. It was brilliant! I was expecting a lot and it was even better than I imagined. Yay for your first Marx brothers film They're all so good, and now you'll want to watch them all! Groucho Marx was a genius All of their films are brilliant - I have a book called The Groucho Letters somewhere...apparently he was a prolific letter writer and his letters were as hilarious as their films!
Kylie Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Thanks Chesil. Yes, I certainly want to watch them all now! Groucho Marx was a genius All of their films are brilliant - I have a book called The Groucho Letters somewhere...apparently he was a prolific letter writer and his letters were as hilarious as their films! I also have The Groucho Letters. A reviewer on a TV show about books read out a letter from Groucho to EB White and it was pretty funny, so I decided to look into the Marx brothers, and here I am! When I was watching Duck Soup, I kept thinking that Groucho somehow seemed more modern and ahead of his time compared to nearly everyone around him. I don't know if that's strange.
Ben Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 (edited) I saw 'The Bone Collector' for the first time today. It's based on the excellent novel by the gorgeously talented Mr Jeffrey Deaver. The film was pretty good, and I thought that Denzel Washington made a wonderful Lincoln Rhymes, with Angelina Jolie as a very acceptable Amelia. I bought the book earlier in the year and have had it sat waiting for me on the TBR. Sounds like I'll have a shot at watching the film too. I just spent a pleasant hour and a half watching Due Date. Wasn't amazing but with Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifianakis it's bound to have at least a few laughs to keep me entertained. Edited May 17, 2012 by Ben
Timstar Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Have you read the book Timstar? I read it before seeing the film (big mistake). Loved the book, hated the film. Ahh it is based on a book. I had no idea but when watching it I thought I bet this is based on a book as it just doesn't seem like it would be an original screenplay. So no I haven't read it, is it the same title?
chesilbeach Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 We watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 this evening.
vodkafan Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I watched a Chinese film called Little Big Soldier last night. Starring, directed and written by Jackie Chan. I wanted to watch this because it was a serious film and not one of his comedies although it had some humorous moments. It was OK but not a keeper will trade this one in.
Karsa Orlong Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I tried to watch Battle: Los Angeles last night. Turned it off after half an hour. Rubbish.
Timstar Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I tried to watch Battle: Los Angeles last night. Turned it off after half an hour. Rubbish. I thought it was dire as well, managed to sit through it all though... you didn't miss anything.

Karsa Orlong Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Super 8. Enjoyed it. It had an old school Spielberg feel about it that I liked.
chesilbeach Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Super 8. Enjoyed it. It had an old school Spielberg feel about it that I liked. We're planning on watching this tonight

Karsa Orlong Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 I watched Lethal Weapon 2; didn't think much of it. I spent most of that film wanting to punch Patsy Kensit
Kylie Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 I wanted to punch everyone, probably Mel Gibson most of all. And what a stupid ending! Geez, the movies I watch to keep men happy...
Karsa Orlong Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 I spend every movie wanting to punch Mel Gibson. Even if he's not in it.
bobblybear Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 I had a huge crush on Mel Gibson after watching the Lethal Weapon series. In my defense, I was only a teenager, so can hopefully be forgiven.
