Kylie Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I know my mum for one just takes the list into a bookshop and hands it over to the sales assistant and stands and waits for them to go and get book/s for her. Hehe. My Mum does this when buying books or DVDs for me. I have another success to report! My Dad is reading his second book in a week! I leant him Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea last week because he remembered enjoying the movie a long time ago. On the weekend, Mum (another recent book convert) and I went book shopping and she bought a book about the Australian outback that we both thought Dad might be interested in. Sure enough, he's started reading it! Woohoo! Quote
Escargot Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 My father reads a lot, but he prefers a different kind of books than I do. Also my best friend and my sister read a lot of books, so we borrow each other books often Quote
Brida Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 (edited) Luckily, members of my family like to read (though every one likes different genres, so we only have the love for reading in common...), and also a few of my friends are bookworms so I have someone to discuss books with, and recommend them to. And get recommendations from, as well. My mum started reading more again, so now I have even more fun in the library picking out books for her too And when I go to the library with my friend, she'll sometimes say 'I'd really like to read something like *this* - any recommendations from the forum?' The Old Man of Storr Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 My mother would read Catherine Cookson etc and my Dad would read the racing page of his newspaper , so I couldn't say I was influenced by my parents . My wife reads but her book choice is quite different to mine as is my daughter's and my son is glued to his x box ! Quote
