julie Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 Hi guys I found the neatest bookmarks the other day . They are in a real skinny tablet-like thing ,one for each month of 2012 . At the top ,it has a mini calendar ,then the rest of the bookmark is a photo . They had different themes, I got the one that had pics of American places. They had others with beaches, lighthouses ,pets, etc . I thought maybe I could use one per month and write the books I complete that month on the back . M-a-y-b-e it will help me to be a little more organized with my reading lists . I'm not real good at that ,but a new year is ahead,so maybe I'll turn over a new leaf .......or maybe a whole tree . anisia Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I've found receipts...not that exciting! Quote
frankie Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Yesterday I found someone's sheet of their PIN numbers for their Internet bank account! That was pretty odd. Of course it's useles because they are just the PIN numbers and one doesn't know the bank account number and the password for it, so no one could actually take advantage of the situation, but still, I'd keep my PIN number slip in a safer place. Easy Reader Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I am feeling a bit left out I have only ever found bookmarks in books that I have recieved as swaps which I assume were put in the book as part of the swap. oh and a boogie that someone had kindly left in a library book once - which was nice Quote
missybct Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I've only ever found bookmarks, and the occasional photo or postcard. I do like it when I get a second hand book and someone has written a little note in it, especially if they've signed the date - I once got a book which had 1935 in it! Quote
The Good Citizen Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I found a photgraph of a girl in the middle of a second hand book that I bought a few months back. It was from quite a few years ago. She was very pretty and It had a name on the back and was dated.. Yes, I'll admit, I had a brief romantic vision of tracking her down from clues in the picture to return the photo but in this day and age she'd probably just take me as a weirdo ha! Was strange to have a direct look at a strager who owned a book before me though! Quote
emelee Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 No such luck. The only thing I have ever found is receipts. Quote
Nollaig Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 My brother was reading a book over Christmas, and using an envelope as a bookmark. One day he happened to notice there was 20 euro inside the envelope! It was his own 20 euro, but he had forgotten about it Quote
Roy Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Once I bought an old book which had a really good drawing, made with pencil. At first I thought it was a drawing related to the book, but after I realised that it wasn't. Quote
Parenthesis Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 I purchased an old book (The Soul of Mary Olivane - great story!) from a secondhand bookshop and found the handwritten attempt of someone trying to compose their own poem on what was at the time of publishing several blank pages in the back of the book. Going by what had been composed, someone had a talent mind for poetry. Quote
Deborah Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 The most exciting thing I have ever found in a book was a four-leaf clover.... Quote
lopeanha Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 As I work at our public library, I'm bound to find lots of things in books A few weeks ago, a teenage girl forgott to take out her bookmark and as I took the book to scan it, a (unused!) pantyliner fell onto my counter ... Quote
Devi Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 (edited) Not so much something I found, but today when I purchased a book, the lady at the counter said "and your bookmarks inside the book" as she placed the receipt inside. Made me laugh and smile, and I thanked her for the bookmark. Edited June 7, 2012 by Devi Quote
Timstar Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Found authors signature in a few books from charity shops, that was a nice surprise. Quote
Kyra_Lyrical Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Not so much something I found, but today when I purchased a book, the lady at the counter said "and your bookmarks inside the book" as she placed the receipt inside. Made me laugh and smile, and I thanked her for the bookmark. Haha! What a smart and funny woman! I like to come across such a person in stores. I once found a short love letter in a book once. There was no 'to' and 'from' but the letter was really worn for something that was closed neatly between book pages so I assume it was something dear to someone some time. Quote
Kreader Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I've found a used train ticket, strands of hair and some bookmarks in some books. Quote
bookmonkey Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 I used to sort the books at a charity shop. Only found a couple of photos, we put them on the wall by the counter for a while in case the owner came back in. Once found a used ticket to the Eiffel Tower. As we live in New Zealand, my kids thought it was really cool to have a ticket from so far away. Quote
Nika Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 10 euros once ( left it in a library I borrow the book from), few bookmarks and dried flowers and leaves. Quote
Coryographies Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I love finding things in books! I last found a Japanese Rail Pass in a book, along with a letter that the lady traveller had written home to her husband while she was there! It was in a Japanese phrasebook Quote
frankie Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 "My own bookmark in a library book I'd previously borrowed" Thanks for typing it out for me, Claire, it was a quick copy+paste operation Quote

paperplane Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Apart from icky squished bugs I once found someoone had written in the margin in blue pen saying they thought the book was rubbish and went on insulting the author. I was so riled up after that! No right.. self entitled so and so! Quote

I was so riled up after that! No right.. self entitled so and so! Blimey That seems a bit excessive … although I guess it's no different to writing a review of a bad book, although I think most of us try to be critical rather than insulting! Quote
Felidae Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Squished bugs, yeah those silverfish things. Oh and ew, snot! Disgusting, put the book away immediately. Yay for library books.. yuck. Quote
emelee Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 An autograph by former Swedish Prime Minister Tage Erlander, who died in 1985. Quote
