Chrissy Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 'Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee'by Dee Brown is a devastating but important read. I thoroughly recommend it. Quote
dollarsandcents Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 'Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee'by Dee Brown is a devastating but important read. I thoroughly recommend it. This. Couldn't agree more. Quote
Echo Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Reservation Blues by Sherman Alexie is great and delves into modern Native American culture. Black Elk Speaks is also a must-read. It's translated from the Lakota language by Black Elk's son and told to John Neihardt. Quote
DecemberJoy Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 I would recommend: 1. Ishi in Two Worlds: A Biography of the Last Wild Indian in North America 2. My People the Sioux Quote
Echo Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Last of the Mohicans by James Fennimore Cooper is supposed to be amazing. Quote
Kell Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Little Big Man by Thomas Berger is supposed to be brilliant. I've not read it myself, but I've heard great things from others and fully intend to read it at some point in the not too distant future, as I loved the film when I saw it years ago. Quote
Katrina1968 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 One of my favorite subjects also as I delve into my family history! For some fictional reading I would also suggest Louise Eldrich. She wrote such books as Plague of Doves, The Painted Drum and Love Medicine to name a few. Excellent books! Also, you can't go wrong with Sherman Alexie! My favorite of his is The Absolutely True Tales of a Part-time Indian! This book makes you laugh out loud and ache with pain. Highly recommend it! Quote

Definitely ^ Its a fantastic story with one of the best characters ever, Jack Crabb Quote
Kell Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I thought I had read your review of it singing its praises, Weave! Quote
frankie Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 I would recommend Linda Lay Shuler's She Who Remembers. I think her books have been compared to those of Jean M. Untinen-Auel. Quote
julie Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Here's a couple more : Zeke & Ned Follow the River Quote
