Where do you read? on the sofa or in bed. 7. How many books have you read in the last 6 months? not too sure, but quite a few. 8. What type/genre do you enjoy reading most? teenage fiction and fantasy. 9. Why do you read? (entertainment, relaxation, learning, etc.) mainly entertainment but also for relaxation. 10. What barriers prevent you from reading more? At the moment it is my 10 week old but that is not a bad thing though. 11. Do you think reading for fun is important? Yes I do 12. Do you fold page corners or use a bookmark? Always always use a bookmark, if I don't have a bookmark I either use a bit of paper or I just try to remember the page, which doesnt work all the time. 13. No my local library isnt very big and also I like to buy books. 16. Do you borrow/loan books from/to friends? No, I definately don't lend books to people as I will never get them back or they are more or less destroyed. I like to keep my books in good condition. What type/genre do you enjoy reading most? Scientific books or fantasy novels 9. Why do you read? (entertainment, relaxation, learning, etc.) Learning mostly, though I enjoy escaping into fantasy worlds when I read fiction 10. What barriers prevent you from reading more? Having to socially interact with people! Otherwise I would read all day 11. Do you think reading for fun is important? Yes 12. Do you fold page corners or use a bookmark? Where do you read? In bed. 7. How many books have you read in the last 6 months? I have no idea but my rough guess would be between 15 to 20. 8. What type/genre do you enjoy reading most? Fiction and history. 9. Why do you read? (entertainment, relaxation, learning, etc.) I read for the fun of the story so I guess entertainment, but I also like to read to learn. 10. What barriers prevent you from reading more? Time. Sometimes life just takes me away. 11. Do you think reading for fun is important? Yes. I think using your imagination is a great way to keep your brain going strong plus reading for fun can lead to new experiences by introducing new things to you as well as opening your mind to new ideas. 12. Do you fold page corners or use a bookmark? Never, that would wrinkle the paper. I use a bookmark (normally the receipt for the book I am reading). 13. Do you prefer to read to music or in silence? I can do either but mostly in silence. 14. Do you discuss books with your friends? Not very often, that is why I joined this forum . It seems I am the only reader among my family and friends. 15. (blogs, newspapers, books, etc.) Books mostly, but newspapers and forums as well. 4. How often do you read for fun in a week? Rarely, actually. I'm usually swamped with schoolwork. 5. What time of day do you like to read? Anytime. Preferably when I have time to myself at home or some other quiet place (rather than on the bus eg.). 6. Where do you read? In bed mostly, or on the couch. I really should get myself a comfortable reading chair. :/ 7. How many books have you read in the last 6 months? Uhm, only 5 or 6 I think, if I count the novels I had to read for school. And I think I should count those because they were well worthwhile and if I hadn't been reading those, I'd have been reading some of my own. 8. What type/genre do you enjoy reading most? Fantasy has been a favourite of mine for long, but I enjoy the occasional thriller and I've recently started to explore the classics. I can read anything really, as long as it's good. 9. Why do you read? (entertainment, relaxation, learning, etc.) All of the ones above, really. Entertainment mostly, but I love learning new things as well. 10. What barriers prevent you from reading more? Time. I'm doing many subjects in school and there seems to be no limit to the amount of assignments one can get in only one week. There hardly is time for anything else. 11. Do you think reading for fun is important? Absolutely. 12. Do you fold page corners or use a bookmark? I never fold! I always have something nearby that's easy to fit between the pages. I usually use actual bookmarks anyway, they give those away at the library. 13. Do you prefer to read to music or in silence? After lunch, and I continue on 'til around 5 or 6 p.m. Of course, sometimes I read all day long and sometimes just an hour or two--depending on time. 6. Where do you read? Either upstairs in the study or downstairs in our comfy couch. 7. How many books have you read in the last 6 months? Around 80 8. What type/genre do you enjoy reading most? Mystery and romance, sometimes together and sometimes apart. 9. Why do you read? A mix of entertainment, relaxation and learning. 10. What barriers prevent you from reading more? It all depends on the book. There are certain subjects that don't make reading a volume easy. For example, I had to put Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita down after just a few chapters. There are not, however, many books that I'll turn down if they interest me. 11. Do you think reading for fun is important? Extremely important. Books are not the only way, but they are an important way to learn and stimulate the brain, to be aided in creativity. 12. Do you fold page corners or use a bookmark? No folding please! Sometimes. I would love to discuss all the books that I read with my offline friends, but not all of them are as dedicated to reading as I am, so at times they become bored with such discussions. 15. On Sundays, I can easily read for between 6 - 8 hours! 5. What time of day do you like to read? All times! I usually read in the morning before getting ready for work, at lunchtime, and in the evening 6. Where do you read? In the big comfy armchair in the living room, and also while walking at lunchtime 7. How many books have you read in the last 6 months? About 40 books 8. What type/genre do you enjoy reading most? historical fiction or dystopian fiction. I also like fiction set in different cultures to our own 9. Why do you read? (entertainment, relaxation, learning, etc.) All of the reasons you stated - relaxation, learning and entertainment 10. What barriers prevent you from reading more? work and sleep! 11. Do you think reading for fun is important? Well...it is to me. I think reading in general is important, and people are more likely to read if they enjoy it 12. As well as online reading groups, I belong to a reading group at the local library and I enjoy discussing the books we read. 15. Do you borrow books from the library? Yes, but generally only the ones I read for the reading group 16. Do you borrow/loan books from/to friends? No. I never borrow books from friends, and I don't really like to lend them out. I'm not selfish and if someone expressed an interest in a book I owned, I'd happily buy them a copy. But I've lost too many books by loaning them out, so I don't do that anymore (except very occasionally, to people I know can be trusted to return them). How often do you read for fun in a week? Everyday. 5. What time of day do you like to read? In the morning when I wake for an hour or two, and usually in the evenings. 6. Where do you read? Usually in my bedroom, sometimes in the living room. 7. How many books have you read in the last 6 months? Over 20, under 40, but not sure on numbers. 8. What type/genre do you enjoy reading most? Horror, Crime, Mystery, True Life/Non Fiction and Romance (in that order). 9. Why do you read? I find it relaxing and I enjoy being absorbed by a good story. 10. What barriers prevent you from reading more? I get tired easily and find it hard to concentrate on books after a while, so have to do it in doses. 11. Do you think reading for fun is important? Absolutely. I am very grateful to my parents for teaching me to read at a very early age, and whilst I had a period during my teens when I didn't read a lot, I find it a very useful pursuit in your spare time to be learning and enriching your life. 12. (blogs, newspapers, books, etc.) It varies depending on what I am doing, but is usually a combination of all of these. 4. How often do you read for fun in a week? every day to at least some degree 5. What time of day do you like to read? at work during my breaks, but at home mostly during the afternoon and evening after I go to bed. 6. Where do you read? in the staff room at work, in the living room, in bed, sometimes in the car, or outdoors, depending on the weather. Anywhere really. 7. How many books have you read in the last 6 months? about 7 or 8. 8. What type/genre do you enjoy reading most? I have read a lot of crime fiction this year, but my tastes are pretty varied. About the only thing I don't read is chicklit and celebrity memoirs. 9. Why do you read? (entertainment, relaxation, learning, etc.) All of the above. 10. What barriers prevent you from reading more? Mostly work. 11. Do you think reading for fun is important? extremely important - books are a great source of learning and entertainment that teach us so much and help broaden the mind, opening us to different ways of thinking and being. 12. Do you fold page corners or use a bookmark? a bookmark. I would never fold corners ! 13. Do you prefer to read to music or in silence? always silence - how can you concentrate when there is constant background noise ? 14. Do you discuss books with your friends? Frequently - both in real and cyber space. 15. Do you borrow books from the library? occasionally 16. Do you borrow/loan books from/to friends? not unless I can help it, as past experience has shown me that I am unlikely to get them back. Thank you very much! How often do you read for fun in a week? It varies. 5. What time of day do you like to read? Night time - where the house is quiet because everyone's asleep while you're still awake, the lampshade's on and you're lost in another world. 6. Where do you read? Mostly in my bedroom, but when I'm not at home, I read in a place where it's quiet. 7. How many books have you read in the last 6 months? 7 since I'm usually busy with other things. 8. What type/genre do you enjoy reading most? I don't have a favourite, but preferably: Gothic, Fantasy/ Supernatural and Fantasy genres. 9. Why do you read? (entertainment, relaxation, learning, etc.) Although I read for entertainment, relaxation and learning also, the main reason is to feed my imagination. One of the best reasons that I love to read is to get lost in a completely different world or pretending to live another person's life (referring to characters). 10. What barriers prevent you from reading more? Busy with college work. 11. Do you think reading for fun is important? Yes, if you read for fun then the more you can enjoy what you are reading. 12. Do you fold page corners or use a bookmark? I use a bookmark. 13. Do you prefer to read to music or in silence? Mostly in silence. 14. Do you discuss books with your friends? No. 15. Do you borrow books from the library? I buy my own copies - it's good to have a personal library in the house filled with a collection of books you have enjoyed. 16. Bed, bath, at my desk 7. How many books have you read in the last 6 months? ~25 8. What type/genre do you enjoy reading most? Philosophy, classics, "philosophical" fiction 9. Why do you read? (entertainment, relaxation, learning, etc.) Erudition and escapism, mostly 10. What barriers prevent you from reading more? School, cunctation, me 11. Do you think reading for fun is important? Yes, primarily because it tends to force one to think, which is an activity I think many need to partake in more frequently 12. Do you fold page corners or use a bookmark? Both. I will usually bookmark to keep my place, but dogear for interesting passages, vocabulary, and whatnot 13. Do you prefer to read to music or in silence? Silence, I am too easily distracted 14. How often do you read for fun in the week? About 6 days out of 7. For anything from 1 hour to 5 hours + 5. What time of day do you like to read? Mostly at night time. 6. Where do you read? In my bedroom. 7. How many books have you read in the last 6 months? 29 8. What type/genre do you enjoy reading most? YA, and well as mystery/crime books. 9. Why do you read? For entertainment purposes, and also for relaxation purposes. 10. What barriers prevent you from reading more? Having so much to do! Such as school work; babysitting; general family things that can't be avoided. 11. Do you think reading for fun is important? Of course! 12. Do you fold page corners or use a bookmark? I use a bookmark (which can be anything from a real bookmark to a scrap of paper_ 13. Do you prefer to read to music or in silence? In silence, otherwise I find myself singing along to the song. 14. Do you discuss books with your friends? Yes, although not as much as I would like to. 15. Do you borrow books from the library? I prefer to buy my books, so no. 16. Do you borrow/loan books from/to friends? I loan them to friends, but none of them really read that much so I don't borrow books from them!
