OK guys i am on Book6 of Malazan Empire and i always get a bit scared when im coming to the end of a series of books because i don't like just guessing what will be my next read, a few times i have bought the first book in a series and not liked it.

I have loved Wheel of Time, Sword of Truth, George R.R.Martin, Tad Williams, Terry Brooks etc

I didnt get on with Raymond Feist at all and Stephen Donaldson didnt really do it for me either.

Can you give me some pointers as to where to start next as i dont want to just take a wild stab in teh dark as to what to read next lol

Cheers

Mark

If you havent already, you could try steven erikson's solo series 'Malazan book of the fallen', Which starts with 'Gardens of the moon', which is a pretty decent book, it just gets a little confusing at points.

Another series you could try reading is Tim severin's 'Viking' series, which begins with ' Odinns child', that was a very good book, i'm just about to start the third book.

hope these help

How about The Saga of the Exiles series by Julian May, or the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov? Although I haven't actually read any of the books you mention, so I can only recommend them because I enjoyed them; I don't know if they are similar in any way to the books you have liked.

But if you fancy a change from fantasy or sci-fi, gax23 is right, Wilbur Smith does write a good adventure! :friends0:

Book 6?? You're not that close to the end of the series! You've still got Reaper's Gale, Toll The Hounds and Dust of Dreams to go, along with The Crippled God which comes out in January.

Then there's Ian C. Esslemont's 'Malazan Empire' series, of which there are two entries so far: Night of Knives and Return of The Crimson Guard.

Based on your liking Erikson and GRRM, I'd recommend the following (in order of my personal preference, with an extract from the first book in each series so you can 'try before you buy' and hopefully not have to guess):

Glen Cook - The Black Company: http://www.amazon.com/Chronicles-Black-Company-Glen-Cook/dp/0765319233/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1278963309&sr=8-2#reader_0765319233

David Gemmell - Legend: http://www.amazon.com/Legend-Drenai-Tales-Book-1/dp/0345379063/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1278963385&sr=1-1#reader_0345379063

Adrian Tchaikovsky - Empire In Black & Gold: http://www.amazon.com/Empire-Black-Gold-Shadows-Apt/dp/1616141921/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1278963426&sr=1-1#reader_1616141921

Joe Abercrombie - The Blade Itself: http://www.amazon.com/Blade-Itself-First-Law-Book/dp/159102594X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1278963350&sr=1-1#reader_159102594X

Also, to a lesser degree, there's:

Robin Hobb - Assassin's Apprentice: http://www.amazon.com/Assassins-Apprentice-Farseer-Trilogy-Book/dp/055357339X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1278964134&sr=1-1#reader_055357339X

Hope that helps
