Inspired by Susan Hill's Howards End is On the Landing: name one of your favourite book titles. It doesn't have to be a book you actually liked.

I'll begin: Beyond Lies the Wub.

Great idea for a thread, I like it :smile2:

A Heartwarming Work of Staggering Genius

Edit: Cannot help myself, must add another one: The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test

one of the book titles I love although the book was really hard work is The Island of the Day Before - by Umberto Eco

Posted

Something Wicked This Way Comes. I ordered this simply because I really liked the name, luckily there are some really good reviews on here so it wasn't a waste of money!

The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear by Walter Moers and Tomorrow, When the War Began by John Marsden.

Also, it has such a simple title but it sums up the book so perfectly: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

If You Want Closure in Your Relationship, Start With Your Legs - I can't remember the author's name, but it was the winner of the funniest book title of the year award in 2008 - I always remember it as it's really quite apt, as well as funny !

I love many of the titles already mentioned, and also The Toyminator, the sequel to The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies Of The Apocalypse.

Another I love is The Line Of Beauty. I don't know why, I just do, and I love the cover of the book too, which is a gate with a neat yard beyond, the gate intricate, up close and in focus, and the garden out of focus.

Also, The Gates (of Hell are about to open, mind the gap).

I freaking love The Masque of the Red Death by Poe, it's such a beautiful, apt title and a provocative precursor for the the tale which stalks in after.

Rawr, you just made me think of The Cask of Amontillado by Poe which is one of my favorites. I love that word 'Amontillado'. Its one of those that just gets stuck in my head and I just keep saying it over and over to feel its lyrical quality.

No, that's the other way :smile2:

I also love Secret Window, Secret Garden by King, it has a touch of the mysterious and promises uncertainty.

Orwell's Animal Farm is pretty interesting too.

Makes me think of Amarillo.

IS THIS THE WAY TO AAAAMARILLLLO? etc. :smile2:

No, no, no... the song goes 'Is this the way to SAN JOSE!'

Posted

I've never heard any song about San Jose, but I distinctly remember a guy singing about going to Amarillo.... :smile2:

That guy was the legend that is Peter Kay.

''I'm getting the word... nonce!'' Phoenix Nights is hilarious :smile2:

Get this thread back on track!

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon is certainly an interesting title.

Posted

Yeahh that's a good title.

And I like anything involving 'thief' -

The Book Thief

The Child Thief

The Thief Lord

All awesome books too!

Isn't Amarillo off topic :smile2:

Robert Rankin has many brilliant book titles I agree!

Some titles I love:

The Secret Life Of Trees

Dark Banquet :Blood and the Curious Lives of Blood-Feeding Creatures

At The Mountains of Madness

Tales Of Ordinary Madness

Salmonella Men On Planet Porno

The Good Angel of Death

Seeking Whom He May Devour

The Premature Burial by Poe makes most people shudder in horror at the thought.

True, true.

 The book is by Yasutaka Tsutsui if anyone is interested, I am yet to read it, he wrote a book called Paprika too which is made into an anime film I think.

There are some other titles I like but I won't post incase they offend some people - some titles by Carlton Mellick III is all I will say.
