I read a book, years ago, about a small boy who lived in a community where difference wasn't tolerated, but he had telepathic powers, which he kept secret until he met his cousin, who had a sixth toe, and had to flee with her to the woods, where he was rescued by people from another land. Any guesses?

After some late night google searching, i found this, i don't know if it helps but it's all i got

"The Chrysalids," by John Wyndham (a pen name

of John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Beynon Harris).

The book has also been

published under the title "Re-Birth."

"In John Wyndham's The Chrysalids, post-holocaust radiation led to

minor mutations such as six toes, or telepathy. Those who deviated

from the norm, even those who looked normal--perhaps especially those

who looked normal--were hunted down and killed."

You know, I looked this book up and I think I might read it, I love post-apocalyptic fiction in general and already thought about reading Day of the Triffids, but now it seems this writer has more good books.

I looked it up and thought it sounded quite interesting, strange as it is, it was that inclusion of 'sixth toe' that made me take notice  I hope it is this book for the OP!
