Kylie Posted January 2, 2010 Author Posted January 2, 2010 (edited) Dystopian Challenge I've built up quite a collection of dystopian novels and I plan on reading a fair few of them this year. I'd also like to take some notes along the way because I'd like to try writing one of my own one day. I should add a disclaimer that some books on the list might be more post-apocalyptic as opposed to dystopian. It's hard to tell sometimes as people often disagree. I got my list from Wikipedia, so that's what I'm sticking with. I aim to read at least 20 books. Kylie Posted January 2, 2010 Author Posted January 2, 2010 (edited) I've decided to undertake the World Challenge as well. I've just put a few countries on there for now, but I'll go over my books in the next few days and add in authors that I've read in the last few years. Note to self on how to update file: Update countries here, save map to desktop, upload to photobucket, resize to large and copy IMG link above. Here is the list of countries I'll be working off (thanks to Janet!) Rather than list all the countries here, I'll just add the ones that I've read. Total: 15 or 6% (as at 8 June 2010) (Need to update with Cuba/Italy) Read: Australia: A Fortunate Life by AB Facey Brazil: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho Canada: Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood Cuba: If on a Winter's Night a Traveller by Italo Calvino Denmark: Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Hoeg Dominica: The Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys England: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen France: The Diving-Bell and the Butterfly by Jean-Dominique Bauby Germany: The Diary of Anne Frank by Anne Frank Greenland: Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Hoeg Ireland: The Book of Evidence by John Banville Italy: If on a Winter's Night a Traveller by Italo Calvino Japan: South of the Border, West of the Sun by Haruki Murakami Russia: Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov Scotland: The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith Spain: The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon Sweden: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson Switzerland: Heidi by Johanna Spyri United States: The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck Countries and authors on my TBR pile: Edited November 9, 2010 by Kylie Quote
chesilbeach Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Kylie, I suspect you have the most impressive TBR list we'll ever see here, and so well organised! Happy reading Quote
Kell Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 OMG! I am SOOOOOOOO impressed with both your list and your organisation! And I have to say I haven't heard mention of Mrs Frisby and the Rats of NIMH in many, many years. I read it when I was about 9 or 10 and adored it. If I remember correctly, it's rather dark but wonderful. Perhaps I should get hold of it and re-read it - after all, it's been more than 20 years since then! I especially love your Gilmore Girls list - I've never seen the show, but the list looks great! Quote
Kate Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Wow you are incredible! Some amazing lists there. I will remember this thread when in search of a challenge! Quote
Kylie Posted January 2, 2010 Author Posted January 2, 2010 Kylie, I suspect you have the most impressive TBR list we'll ever see here, and so well organised! Happy reading Aw, thanks! I did a lot of work to get myself organised here a couple of years ago, so now I can cheat every year and just copy my posts after I've deleted the books I read in 2009. OMG! Thanks Kell! I read Mrs Frisby about 20 years ago also (I think we're around the same age) so I can't wait to read it again. Only I can't remember anything at all about it except that we read it for school and my friend and I had to put on a mock interview about it in front of our class. It's funny, but I set up these posts a few weeks ago and just copied/pasted so I wasn't paying much attention today. I completely forgot that I had added a Rory Challenge, so when I saw your post I thought for a second that you had confused me with Frankie, because I was reading her Rory Challenge today and thinking 'I should have done that too'. I have such a bad memory. Thank goodness you're here to remind me of my challenges! Wow you are incredible! Some amazing lists there. I will remember this thread when in search of a challenge! Thanks Kate! I will be keeping a careful eye on your reading lists this year because I enjoy your reviews (especially of the Discworld series). Quote

Kylie that's funny Who can remember everything aye, that's partly why we have these lists But I noticed that some of the books on your Rory list are not on my Rory list? We must have different lists, shoot! We must compare notes sometime. I also wanted to say that my word you're really organised, I'm in awe! And I just loved going through your TBR list, it's huge and it makes me humble. I love it I wish you a happy 2010 reading year, I hope you find plenty of jewels and enjoy! Quote
Nollaig Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Kylie I saw you last night when you were reserving over ten posts with nothing in them and I was wondering what you had planned (didn't comment so as not to interrupt your lists) but WOW. That is some amount of lists! And all the challenges!! Lady, I salute you Quote
