Kate
Well I have finished The Mermaid's Purse. Really enjoyed it. I found it a fast read, a bit of a psychological thriller. There were twists and turns and my opinions of the characters and who would turn out shady were changing all the time. A most enjoyable book. Now I think I'm going to read Sherlock Holmes and the Brighton Pavilion Mystery by Val Andrews.
AlwaysAttract
Oh, did you enjoy the chinese cinderella? I read it a few year ago now, and can remember really quite enjoying it. Im going to re-read it soon I think.
Kate
I haven't read it yet, it is a must-read for this year. It has been on my shelf for ages, I'm looking forward to reading it
Mac
Unsure as to why there are a load of random question marks in that quote.... I think they do it to make us laugh!
Nollaig
It's because of an unrecognized punctuation character or set thereof - happens sometimes. Destination format doesn't recognize the source one and puts question marks in the relevant places.
Kate
I have now finished Dream Makers by Nora Roberts and Sherlock Holmes and the Brighton Pavilion Mystery by Val Andrews. Both were enjoyable. The former contains two short romance stories and the other was good, but not as good as the originals
Kate
I couldn't sleep during the night so I read half of Chinese Cinderella and the Secret Dragon Society by Adeline Yen Mah. Might carry on reading it now... This is on my list of books I will read this year from my TBR pile. So far so good
Kate
I have finished Chinese Cinderella and the Secret Dragon Society. It wasn't amazing, but it wasn't bad either. The language was very simple but there is a lot of information in it - explaining things such as yin and yang. I found those areas dragged a little bit, but I understood why there were needed in the book and to someone who is interested in that I think those sections of the book will be enjoyable to them. Unfortunately I'm not one of those people! There is some fun action parts and I liked the descriptions of the kung fu - very cool!
Kate
Yesterday I read Snapshot by Swindells. Although a children's book I enjoyed it quite a lot. My Mum gave me some books yesterday so my TBR pile is big again. Going to spend some time reading Lord Deverill's Secret by Amanda Grange now. More dissertation reading but actually am quite liking it so far!
Kate
I finished Lord Deverill's Secret by Amanda Grange this morning. It was an easy but engaging read. It is romantic historical fiction and I enjoyed it
Kate
The other week I finished The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents by Terry Pratchett. Tap-dancing rats, very funny! As usual I loved this book. Not my favourite but well worth reading. I haven't been able to do much reading this month because we have moved but I'm hoping to get The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton finished today, which is a great book. Kate
I finished The Forgotten Garden this afternoon. I loved it, a fantastic book I've started The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown now
Kylie
The other week I finished The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents by Terry Pratchett. I have this on my TBR pile but I can't remember...is it a stand-alone book? Glad you enjoyed it.
Kate
I have this on my TBR pile but I can't remember...is it a stand-alone book? Glad you enjoyed it. It is a Discworld novel but it doesn't feature any of the "main" characters except Death so it can be read as a stand-alone book

Kate
Yesterday I finished In The Heart of the Canyon by Elisabeth Hyde. It is a trip I will never physically make but the novel took me there and let me experience the trip and the landscape wonderfully. I loved the characters and the storyline. It was engaging and well written and I highly recommend it. The other week I finished The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. I did try and post something here but I lost my internet connection. That was another book I really enjoyed. It is big - over 600 pages, but I flew through it. I loved it straight off. The story jumps between different characters and times but it was easy to follow and so enjoyable. There were a few surprises, and some of the twists I worked out, but overall, another highly recommended book.
Kate
I finished Grave Secret by Charlaine Harris at the weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I felt the beginning was a touch slow but it soon opened up into a great story. Some of the outcomes I wasn't surprised about, but there was one twist which surprised me I didn't think it was Mark who killed Cameron, was surprised he did it. I thought this was a good book I'm currently reading Yours, Faithfully by Sheila O'Flanagan. It is a girly book but I like it
Kate
One of the books I had on the go was Linwood Barclay's Too Close To Home. It started really well but around 100 pages I felt it got a bit weird. There was an extract of a book that was basically going to become soft porn. Alongside that, there was loads of swearing. All this meant I didn't want to carry on reading. Just not my cup of tea
Kate
I have just finished Yours, Faithfully by Sheila O'Flanagan. I really enjoyed it. It was another big book - 600 pages, but well worth reading. It is chick-lit, with the bad characters being cheating men, but it had a good storyline - with bigamists and comas. The book kept me gripped and I enjoyed reading it
Kate
This afternoon I finished The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. I read it for my Banned Books Challenge and really enjoyed it. I loved the character of Tom - a typical boy - mischievous and full of imagination. There are some horrors in the book, which were written very well and dealt with in a satisfactory way. I was hooked, a very good book
~Andrea~
That's a book I've been thinking of reading for a while. Glad you enjoyed it!
Kate
That's a book I've been thinking of reading for a while. Glad you enjoyed it! You should definitely read it. I'm going to read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn soon. I'm listening to Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte at the moment. This is a re-read for me, as I need to for my Bronte Sisters Challenge and for the Rory Gilmore Challenge. I didn't enjoy it the first time I read it, but I'm really enjoying it now
Mac
Hiya Kate. What did you make of The Lost Symbol? Do I bother with it? Do I buy one simply to chuck over my shoulder? I've got a Lindwood Barclay book to read, but might slide it a bit lower down Mount TBR... Hope you're well. x

I didn't enjoy it the first time I read it, but I'm really enjoying it now The book unlocked for me when I listened to it ... I had tried to read it before and failed. After I listened to it I went back and read it (it was an abridged version so I hadn't got the full story) .. it all made perfect sense then. I've since listened to it being read in full by Patricia Routledge of all people .. it was brilliant. Hope you're still enjoying it

Put it down and didn't pick it up again, for no other reason except I have other books to read! I will give it another go soon. It did remind me a lot of his other work though
