Rawr Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 I don't even know what it is about, i just saw it and read a brief synopsis and thought, 'There's always time for more books!' I look forward to it though, i have seen the name thrown about the forum a couple of times. Quote
Rawr Posted January 3, 2010 Author Posted January 3, 2010 Finished my York notes analysis of Stoker's novel 'Dracula', very interesting reading as usual and picked up on a couple more things that didn't cross my mind the first time Quote
Rawr Posted January 4, 2010 Author Posted January 4, 2010 (edited) Finished 'Secret Window, Secret Garden' by King last night. Very interesting take on a theory that has almost been done to death. I liked how it panned out, although i think the climax was a little rushed, it was a great read and picked itself up after a little dragging mid-section. I thought the ending was a little clich Edited January 4, 2010 by Rawr Quote
frankie Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - Roald Dahl (Re-Read) Inkspell - Cornelia Funke Northanger Abbey - Jane Austen The Curious Incident of the Dog At Nighttime - Mark Haddon Frankenstein - Mary Shelley (Re-Read) Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell - Susanna Clark You've got some great reads ahead of you, I hope you enjoy these! Nollaig Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Inkspell? Does that mean you read Inkheart? Quote
frankie Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Inkspell? Does that mean you read Inkheart? Oh holy heck, I've confused myself with all the different Ink-s again! I read Inkheart a couple of years ago and I enjoyed it, but have yet to read Inkspell and Inkdeath. I've been meaning to reread Inkheart for a while now so I could start reading the next installments. Some of the plot twists have escaped my mind, as well as some of the characters Quote
Nollaig Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Oh no, not you Frankie - Rawr! I got him a copy of Inkheart, but now Inkspell is on his list. I'm wondering whether he mixed them up, or read Inkheart and didn't tell me You should read them again though Frankie, they're awesome Quote

I'm wondering whether he mixed them up, or read Inkheart and didn't tell me You should read them again though Frankie, they're awesome Ah okay, oooops!! I did wonder whether it was meant for me because you didn't use quotes, but then I checked and didn't see Rawr mentioning anything about Inkspell in the last how many posts and so I thought that maybe it was for me after all Quote
Nollaig Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Don't worry, I should have been more specific! Mental note: That's what the quote tags are there for, Noll Quote
Rawr Posted January 5, 2010 Author Posted January 5, 2010 Whoops i meant Inkheart!! I have been keeping it on my TBR shelf (well that's a lie, it's situated on a set of draws, i have no shelves) for after these two King reads I like to alternate genres and it's between Inky and Johnathan Strange next! And Frankie, i am looking forward to all of these too Quote
Nollaig Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 It's okay! I was just going at the thought that you'd read it and forgot to report back Quote
Rawr Posted January 6, 2010 Author Posted January 6, 2010 No no, i will probs ramble and ask questions when i'm done Quote
Rawr Posted January 7, 2010 Author Posted January 7, 2010 My title scared me then, i thought i was going crazy and had changed it in my sleep or something Or my evil Rawr twin did it... I am sure I shall enjoy it Quote
Rawr Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 As i've semi-ranted on Under the Dome in another thread, I don't need to do it here (yeah you're all spared this time). I have decided I am not going to finish it. I am now around fifty pages into the delightfully charming (and a little verbose ) would of Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen! Quote
Nollaig Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Northanger Abbey is a hilarious book! I had to study it in college. There's actually a similar book, about a somewhat deluded girl who is obssessed with novels and heroes and so on, called 'The Female Quixote' which is worth a read if you like Northanger Abbey. Can't think of the author's first name but the surname is Lennox. Quote
Rawr Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 Annie? No that is a singer I think. Yes, Northanger was on my reading list when I was trying to get through uni, and I suspect it's one which doesn't leave the unit often so I am probably reading it a couple years in advance for when I'm studying again I am finding it good so far! Quote
Nollaig Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Annie is the singer, and the reason I can't ever remember the author's name! Quote
Rawr Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 (edited) I finished Cabal: The Nightbreed by Clive Barker last night. Here are a few random points that have been floating around in my head about the book. It was an entertaining read for sure, he has a very magnetic quality to his prose which drags you along with each page, it's a very talented way of writing. He can throw an unexpected sentence in which really strikes a chord inside you, even though it may not apparently fit with what is going on in the story at that moment. I appreciate that in a writer, I think it is an important quality to have which can separate a great writer from a good writer. The characters, firstly, there is really nothing special here, they simply serve the story with a little bit of somewhat interesting backstory, but I didn't feel for them much. This, especially in a book which tries to get you emotionally unbalanced, meant that a lot of things were quite ineffective with respect to the point of the story, to give you a ride of horror. Of course I was rooting for them and the 'bad guy' was a little anger-invoking as you would expect, but add a few clich Edited March 3, 2010 by Rawr Quote
Rawr Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 Added Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban as a re-read as I do love the book Quote
Rawr Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 Hung out in the library for a couple of hours this afternoon and came back with three new books to add The Book Thief - Markus Zusak Everything's Eventual - Stephen King The Cosmic Puppets - Philip K Dick Looking forward to getting a move on and mixing these in with the TBR tower Quote
poppyshake Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 I loved 'The Book Thief' .. one of my fave reads ever. Hope you enjoy it too Quote
Rawr Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 Sounds promising, the narrative is very odd and jumpy so far, but it's interesting for sure Quote
