Anika Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Just picked up 'The Lynne Truss Treasury'--(3 complete novels and a collection of her columns) the day before yesterday for only $1.97 NEW!! A Christmas present to myself which I couldn't help starting on immediately.
Kylie Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I have the Lynne Truss Treasury on my TBR pile. I'd love to know what you think of it!
MuggleMagic Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I finished reading Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. I absolutely LOVED it. The plot twists and turns kept me guessing right until the very end. It is SUCH a good book!! I started Handling The Undead by John Ajvide Lindqvist but it hasn't yet captured me like Let The Right One In did. I'm going to read some more of it later in the hopes that it picks up a little bit
Mexicola Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Last night I finished The Reader and after much deliberation have now started The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova.
catwoman Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Last night I finished The Reader and after much deliberation have now started The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. The Historian is my next read Mexicola so I look forward to hearing what you think.

nightingale Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 My copy of Fahrenheit 451 arrived today . Will start reading it this evening .
aquarius91 Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I'm working my way through marian keyes-the other side of the story. It's 650 pages so takes a while! I'm currently just over halfway, hoping to get 100 or so pages read by end of the day.
lexiepiper Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I'm still reading The Secret Scripture, it's not really grabbing me, I'm hoping I can finish tonight so I can move on to something else.
AbielleRose Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I'm hoping to make it through chapter 10 of The Inferno today. I'm just about to start 5 right now.
nightingale Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Read Fahrenheit 451 on the bus to and from work. Read the author's introduction and the first 24 pages of the novel. Will read a few more pages before bed .
Stephanie2008 Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I'm going to try and finish Generation Kill tonight. Have been reading other books in between a couple of chapters at the moment because it's a heavy book to read all in one sitting
rachel kay Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I finished The End Of Mr.Y by Scarlett Thomas last night, a week after starting it which is good for me. I thought it was very interesting and well thought out and really rather clever in a way that made my brain work trying to remember all the science I learned back in school. I would have liked it to end a little differently than it did though. All my new books came from amazon over the past couple of days So, I started a book by Diana Hunter today as it seemed the lightest of the bunch after a heavy one. Its pretty good so far and it'll probably be finished by tomorrow as its not very big. I don't quite know what to start after that as my TBR pile seems to be growing all the time.

lexiepiper Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Finished The Secret Scripture and was very disappointed, but onwards we go, and now going to go for a christmassy read with Cecelia Ahern's The Gift.
BookJumper Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 My mojo came back!I got stuck into Dracula The Un-Dead by Dacre Stoker yesterday and read the lot, I thought it was brilliant, really enjoyed it Yay and double-yay! Good to hear that your renegade mojo has put in an appearance, and also good to hear you enjoyed Dracula The Undead - Noll's less-than-thrilled review has been putting me off slightly which wasn't too good as I have a signed & dedicated copy on Mount TBR!
frankie Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Nice to hear your mojo's back Charm! Last night I finished One for the Money. It was an okay read. I'm going to try and travel to BF's today (that's if the weather's permitting, I hear the train traffic is in deep trouble today because of the snow), I've packed everything I need except for my holiday reading. It's the same thing everytime I travel, I spend most of my packing time thinking about which books I might want to read and which would suit my mood. I wish I had a suitcase with wheels, I could take a whole minilibrary with me
Inver Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Finished 'The Christmas Train' by David Baldacci. Easy, gentle read.

ned Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Halfway through 'Salems Lot, i had a break to read my two monthly magazines that arrived yesterday.
Nollaig Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I'm a few 'chapters' into Oscar Wilde: A Life In Letters and it's quite fascinating. He's (so far) exactly the kind of person I imagined, (outwardly self-assured and unquestioning of his desired place in high society) but still in his twenties and on the up and up, so it'll be interesting to see how his disposition changes as his situation worsens in his 30s and 40s. It's possible to see through some of the act in his letters to his friends - when he got his distinctions at college he passed it off as being unnoteworthy, even waiting til a day later when it was published in the local paper to actually confirm it, but he says in a letter to his friend how he terribly brushed it off and that he was secretly quite proud of his achievement. Bless
Beccles Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I have the full works of Oscar Wilde and dip into it occasionally. He was a great writer.
Nollaig Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 By works do you mean his writings (poems/plays/short stories etc)? I don't have a collection of those yet, or the complete collection of his personal letters, but I have lots of individual bits and this small collection of his letters.
Charm Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Yay and double-yay! Thanks Bookjumper! The book did surprise me, it had a lot more action in it than I was expecting although there was a good bit of 'poetic license' used and it was nice and fast paced. You will definately need an open mind and not to have any pre-conceived ideas! Get you though, a signed and dedicated copy no less! I'm so jealous! Nice to hear your mojo's back Charm! My OH has to dig his way out if we need to, so needless to say, that happens only in extreme emergencies Halfway through 'Salems Lot, i had a break to read my two monthly magazines that arrived yesterday. I hope you're enjoying Salem's Lot ned, it was my first Stephen King and vampire read when I was about 13, I loved it.
