Paws Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Greetings book club, as a newly registered member I am wondering if anyone happens to know a good book which introduces one to the study of symbolism within academia or simply "a good book" about it . The symbolism I am mainly interested in learning encompasses the "cultural" primarily, such as in the arts (religious symbolism, Surrealism (Dali, Max Ernst etc.), and within literature. I hope I'm not being too vague as to what book I hope to encounter so if more details are needed I'll include or modify information. Help would be greatly appreciated Quote
dolphingirl Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Have you tried the series Dan Brown is writing? I really enjoyed that one so far. It's Angels and Demons, The Da Vinci Code, and The Lost Symbol. Quote
Talisman Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I may be wrong but I suspect Pawset is looking for a non fiction rather than fiction book. Quote
Rawr Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I don't know if this would relate to what you are looking for, but to really start from a beginning of sorts, the works of Roland Barthes would be a good place to head out from, it deals with semiotics and the like, which would put you on a good path. lyn Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 another author for symbols and semiotics is Umberto Eco. Quote
