I've since discovered that Barbara Ewing is an actress who has appeared in numerous TV series. Have you managed to read her other book, The Trespass yet? I hope you enjoy The Mesmerist. I didn't realise she was an actress either. I shall look her up on imdb.com to see if I know her from anything. ETA: I probably saw her in Peak Practice as I saw most, if not all, of those, although I don't remember her character/what she looked like!
