martymcfly3004 Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Registered for the site a couple of days ago and loving it, its about time I introduced my self. My name is Iain and I recently moved to Bromley, my new commute into London for work means I have a lot more time to read now. So far have managed to get through catcher in the rye (an amazing book) after many recommendations and am nearly finished reading Dune, which has been a bit of a slog but am enjoying it a lot more as the story is picking up pace towards the end. My favourite book is probably 'The Magician' by Raymond E. Feist. Read it several times when I was younger though I don't know if I would enjoy it as much now im in my late twenties. Have read quite a few of the Discworld books as well and am thinking of getting Terry Pratchetts latest book soon. My next read is 'A Clockwork Orange' by Anthony Burgess. Hoping to use this site to get some ideas of other things that I need to be reading, as picking a new tome has got to be one of the hardest things in the world. Quote

catwoman Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Hi and welcome. I used to have to do a pretty long Train commute so I know what it is like, and how important books are to make the journey bearable. You will find many book ideas on the site I am sure. My TBR pile has grown bigger than the Effel tower and my Library card has started to get floppy from the amount of books I am taking out each week. Enjoy your time here. Hope to see you around. CW. martymcfly3004 Posted November 5, 2009 Author Posted November 5, 2009 my Library card has started to get floppy from the amount of books I am taking out each week. You know, it would never have occurred to me to go to a library before you said that. I don't think I have stepped into one since I was at high school. Should really see if there is one in bromley, could save me a bit of money in the long run! Quote

If there is a library ( small but really nice) in my village there must be one near you. I hada break from the library for a few years. But now with being able to order online and renew online I find it so much easier and also easy to know if they have the books I want in there. Also I notice they seem to open a little later too. also with this site unless you want to become bankrupt, the library is a pretty good idea, with the numerous recommendations you will find on here! Kylie Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Welcome Iain! I have Dune and The Magician on my TBR pile, so I'm glad to hear that you've enjoyed them, and A Clockwork Orange is one of my very favourite novels. I look forward to discussing books with you! Quote
martymcfly3004 Posted November 6, 2009 Author Posted November 6, 2009 Jeez! Thats quite the welcome! Glad to see some back to the future fans as well. @ Catwoman: Apparently there is a very nice library in bromley too which is good news! Going to go and register at the weekend. @ Kylie: I nipped into borders last night to buy A clockwork Orange and it was only about 150 pages long, I was told that it was a big novel, do you know if its the abridged version?
