lexiepiper Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Has anyone pre-ordered from Amazon.co.uk before? I'm basically wondering about when the book is sent, is it sent to arrive on the release date, or is it sent out on the release date? Quote
Fi. Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Has anyone pre-ordered from Amazon.co.uk before? I'm basically wondering about when the book is sent, is it sent to arrive on the release date, or is it sent out on the release date? I do it all the time! It varies with each book, a few come early but most come within a couple of days of the given date. The new Terry Pratchett was due out this week but I got my copy last week, just trying to think of other examples - I preordered the new Juliet Marillier which was due October 2nd but I got it on September 24th, the new Rachel Allen cookbook I got the day it was due out and the New Moon Film Guide came the day before it was due Quote
willoyd Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 I had The Girl who kicked the Hornets' Nest on pre-order. Published Oct 1st, arrived Oct 5th (bearing in mind that the 4th was a Sunday). Quote
Rosalind Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 I order them all the time at the moment some books are pre-ordered to be released in March next year, I don't really keep up with when they arrive and when they are released. I have to wait 2 days anyway since I am in Belgium (Uk-Belgium takes 2 days it seems). Quote
Talisman Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 I suspect it depends on the publisher - some put an embargo on very popular books (The Lost Symbol for example, or Harry Potter), and retailers and other media sources can receive quite hefty fines for breaking it. Quote
beef Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 I have done this once or twice, generally the book arrives just before or on the day, and sometimes if you pay full price for a book then it is discounted amazon refund the difference. Quote
lexiepiper Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 Thanks for the replies guys It's been very helpful Quote
mexia Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 I guess it depends on whether it's in stock or not? If they have it you will get it regadrless of the stipulated time of release. Quote

greeeen Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 I've done this once.. It took around 2 days for it to reach me. It was actually quicker than expected. But, like what they have said, it depends on the book and publisher.. But it would generally take, probably, less than a week Quote
Punkafoo Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 It all depends on the postage and package you have and the time of year it comes out. Quote
pontalba Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I've pre-ordered books quite a bit. Sometimes it arrives on the day it comes out, and sometimes a few days later. It seems they do try to time it to arrive on it's release date. As posted above it varies a little. I do like Amazon [uS] guaranteed lowest price too. If you order the book sometimes the price goes down after wards, and Amazon will honor the lowest price. I've saved several dollars at times, as with the latest pre-order, Heartstone. Quote
