Kylie Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Welcome to the forum, James. You have some great books on your lists, and quite a few that I'd like to read one day. I look forward to reading your thoughts on them! Quote
Adam Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Welcome! Your list looks wonderful. I see you have read The Fighter by Craig Davidson. This is one of my all time favorite books. It really examines humanity. Quote
Dimitra Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Many of your favorite books have been made into films!(I love Harry Potter as well) To Kill A Mockingbird is one of my favorites, I hope you'll enjoy it. 1984 is in my TBR too. Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 to the forum James. Looking at your list, you're going to fit in well here Quote
Rawr Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Great that you love Fight Club I have also read Battle Royale, that was probs the last book i brought, it was a great read. Quote
Nollaig Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I second what he said about Battle Royale, but I would actually also recommend the manga series to you. And the movie. It's a pretty surreal story, and I pretty much think each medium brings out different aspects of the story (the live action movie makes it visual and real, the manga makes big crazy surreal explosions and deaths and things.) BookJumper Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Agreed, you've got some interesting stuff on there I was wondering if I could I ask you why you favourited "The Stars My Destination"? The title really grabs me but the cover (I have so far been unable to find an edition other than the really ugly Gollancz Masterworks one) has been preventing me from buying this for quite some time. It might help is someone told me what I was missing... ! Quote
james Posted August 3, 2009 Author Posted August 3, 2009 Thanks to all for the warm welcome. Dimitra - I'm a big film nut and pretty much all the books i read when I started reading more seriously were adapted into film. My reading list has evolved alot but I am still fascinated by novel to film adaptations. Red Dragon is one of my favourite books but I hate the film by the same name. Michael Mann's adaptation of the same book, a film called Manhunter, is a far better attempt even though it leaves out an awful lot. Rawr - Fight Club is one of those books I can read again and again, I'd even go as far as to say I enjoy it more than the film. BookJumper - The stars my destination is one of the best books I have ever read. It is exceptionally well written and even though it was published in the 50's it hasn't dated at all. It's kind of like a SF version of the mel gibson film Payback, though this doesn't really do it justice. Quote
Kylie Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 The Stars My Destination looks really good. I'm adding this one to my wish list! Thanks James and BookJumper Quote
