Kell Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Did anyone watch the semi-final last night? We missed most of it as we forgot it was on (we watch it every year!), but there were only two good songs on last night anyway (and they both got through - hurrah!) The 2nd semi is on Thursday night (BBC3) and the final on Saturday (BBC1) - will anyone else be watching?
Nici Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I'll be watching Kell! I forgot last night but will be watching from now on. Just can't wait for Saturday!
frankie Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I think I might be watching if there's nothing better to do, Finland actually got into the finals this year which was really surprising
Kell Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 Yay! A fellow fan! Dale and I are HUGE fans of this wonderfully kitch event and make a point of watching the whole thing every year - we look forward to it from year to year! I'm disappointed with most of this year's crop of entries though - not much cop in comparison to last year which had LOADS of excellent songs but was, unfortunately, a bit of a fix. Russia should NOT have won last year! Dale and I are tipping Sakis Rouvas to win for Greece this year. He's entered before and come 3rd and their entry is pretty good too!

frankie Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 It's because of you that I am a fan! I never watched it before joining the BCF! Wow, I never thought joining the BCF might have that kind of repercussions
Suzanna Addison Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I think I've given up on the ESC... I hate the way it is all fixed. I don't think the voting system is fair and some beautiful songs get completely overlooked and the worse ones win - all excepting the one where Finland won! But I don't think I'll be watching this year!
Lucybird Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 hmm I may watch, but isn't Graham Norton presenting this year? He really annoys me
Suzanna Addison Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Yes, he is doing it this year as Terry W. got fed up with the politics and in-voting. Same reason why I'm not watching any more! And Grahame Norton annoys me to.

I don't think the voting system is fair and some beautiful songs get completely overlooked and the worse ones win - all excepting the one where Finland won! But I don't think I'll be watching this year! It's changed this year - the international jury is back, taking up 50% of the votes in the final. hmm I may watch, but isn't Graham Norton presenting this year? He really annoys me Yes - Tel is a sad loss to Eurovision, but annoying as I find Norton, it'll be interesting to see how he does...
Lucybird Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 that's part of the reason I might watch, I am interested to see how he does, but I don't really have high hopes
Suzanna Addison Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 The voting system changing is it? I may watch it ... depends how I feel. I do like the songs most of the time!
lexiepiper Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I'll be watching, me and Michael love watching it every year too Kel
Ben Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I always watch, but never understand why as we never get anywhere.
Dimitra Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I'm only watching the voting the last few years. Apart from the fact that I don't like pop music, I don't get the meaning of this competition. Seriously, it's supposed to be a European song competition and almost everybody sings in English! Neither I ever got why they make such a big deal out of it...
Stephanie2008 Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I always watch, but never understand why as we never get anywhere.
Kell Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 We never get anywhere because we consistently enter terrible songs - LOL! Last year was our best hope since Katrina and the Waves won it for the UK back in 1997 with Love Shine a Light. THe performance last year was fantastic and the song was really good, but last year seemed to be a bit of a fix, to be honest. This year's UK entry once again sucks royally. I don't know what ALW thought he was doins writing the song - he should stick to musicals. I don't think much of that Jade who's singing it, either. Ah well!
SueK Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 I've never been inspired by ALW either (except perhaps for Phantom) and to be honest, he was never going to write the best song ever for this Competition was he. Frankly unless our country ends in an "ia" or we have Balkan or Baltic neighbours, we ain't gotta chance:lol: Waste of licence fee if you ask me.
Stephanie2008 Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Waste of licence fee if you ask me. Yeah that's how I feel. I really don't like this years song (I didn't watch the programme so don't know what the other selection was) but it needs to be more upbeat. I miss the days of Making Your Mind Up
Lucybird Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 I don't like the song, but I think she has a good voice
Suzanna Addison Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 I have given up on falling in love with any song as the ones I like tend not to get anywhere! I think it was Latvia a few years ago, had a song about Pirates ... it was really funny and cool ... completely ignored!
