BookJumper Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 It's quite alright, one likes to be of service and I know what you mean, I tend to be not too impressed by all-out-evil-without-a-reason bad guys. Of course, people react in different ways to different things life throws their ways which you could say is one way of distinguishing between good and evil people, but I find it hard to believe that anyone may be inherenly evil i.e. born that way so it's good when writers flesh out their baddies (though baddies they are) and allow you to understand when and why they became baddies. MissWhitlock Posted August 2, 2009 Author Posted August 2, 2009 mm-hm, Yeah, it's very interesting to know the history of the evil dudes, sometimes you relate to them, it's very intriguing. Does that mean that the characters from Generation Dead are the "bad guys" then? That it's written from the bad guy's point of view? Quote
BookJumper Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 It's more like omniscient narrator who adopts the train of thought and emotions of the character he is following; the book isn't narrated all from the baddies' point of view, in fact more often than not it focuses on the good guys, but when it does shift to the baddies you get a glimpse of how their minds work and why which I find refreshing. Does that make sense? Quote
MissWhitlock Posted August 3, 2009 Author Posted August 3, 2009 Ahh yeah, I get it, no worries. That would be interesting! I love it when authors go into the baddie's mind for about a chapter or two, it's interesting and definitely different, and you get to know a bit of their history and WHY they're doing things they are doing, ay? interesting. MissWhitlock Posted August 10, 2009 Author Posted August 10, 2009 Finished The Kite Runner. Brilliant story. Brilliant. It's so sad and it's such a unique story, almost made me cry. It has very engaging twists in the plot too- which are just MIND-BLOWING by the way. Almost had a heartattack when Rahim Khan told Amir that Hassan died I was like, And At the same time. Anyways. It IS very engaging and it touches your heart. It made me think that, these things DO happen. Some of the parts of the story were just..very disturbing. The author's writing creates very disturbing and memorable images. Without them, the book wouldn't be what it is. A bloody masterpiece. Definitely one of my favourites. 10/10- can't find anything bad about it. Quote
bethany725 Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I loved this book, too, MissWhitlock.. Such a great story! If you haven't already read "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by the same author, pick it up -- I liked it even more. Quote
MissWhitlock Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 really? That's jolly good! -excited- I shall put it on my list! I will never finish this list ever. For every book I read, I add two more. xD DAMN! Quote
MissWhitlock Posted December 12, 2009 Author Posted December 12, 2009 (edited) It seemed I had lost my mo-jo for quite some time... I read about Half of Jessica by Bryce Courtenay, got absolutely bored and just gave up.. But then I saw Dead Until Dark and thought I'd give it a go. And I did, and it's awesome. Almost finished. MissWhitlock Posted December 19, 2009 Author Posted December 19, 2009 Finished with the Dead Until Dark book, hella good. O__O Can't wait to read the second one. I also started The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson a few days ago. Almost finished-- CAN'T WAIT TO KNOW THE ENDING, btw. HELLA GOOD book. Sorry for the caps. That was needed. Anywho. I will be putting The Girl Who Played With Fire on my list. Because I can't not. K. Bye. Quote
Chrissy Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 I recently bought 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' and 'The Girl Who Played With Fire', so I am glad you are so enjoying the first one, as it has been mentioned on here that the second is even better than the first. I'm so excited, I love finding new good reads! Once read, then all I'll have to do is wait for the third (The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest?) to come out in paperback! Quote
Kylie Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 I'm glad you're enjoying these books Miss Whitlock. I have the Sookie Stackhouse books on my TBR pile and the Stieg Larsson books on my wish list so your comments bode well. Quote
MissWhitlock Posted December 19, 2009 Author Posted December 19, 2009 Haha yeah, I thought the Sookie Stackhouse series was going to be just concentrating on sex, actually, because that's what the TV series projected, but apparently not. If anything, it lacks it. Hope you'll enjoy them I recently bought 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' and 'The Girl Who Played With Fire', so I am glad you are so enjoying the first one, as it has been mentioned on here that the second is even better than the first. I'm so excited, I love finding new good reads! Oh wow, now I can't wait to read The Girl Who Played With Fire. I looked up the author if he had any other books and was really really bummed to hear that apparently the series was supposed to have ten books in it, but sadly the author died. That really sucks.
