Just finished Interview With the Vampire after accidentilly starting it one night.

I love this book and really love the lead character Louis. Unlike most other vampires, he values human life even though he is ridiculed for this and can't quite let go of his past life. Throughout the book his good human nature is constantly trampled upon until he finally decides to live out the rest of his existence as a loner.

I would give it a 9 out of 10! The follow up book is 'The Vampire Lestat' which I can't wait to start!! ;)

Hmmm, these are some books I've not had a look at. Maybe I should. Do you think that the character 'Angel' is loosely based on this fella, then? He valued human life and was a bit of a loner. Cool programme. Hope you're okay. ;)

Hey!

Yeah......maybe he is. I never really watched the Angel programme (I don't really watch a lot of tv which is a bit boring eh!! haa!!)

I saw the movie adaptation of the book many moons ago so I related Louis to Brad Pitt who played him. I think that always helps to keep a girl engaged in the story mind you! But I'd definitely recommend it. Maybe you could watch the movie first before taking the plunge into the books?

It also looks at how times change. It shows how people can become quite scared as they get older and the world around them becomes unfamiliar. It's something that I'm quite interested in anyway being a Town Planning student but I think I'm probably going to be one of those people when I'm older....eeeek!!

Hope you're grand!! Reading anything interesting at the mo?

Just finished The Coffin Dancer by Jeffrey Deaver and WOW!!!

It was such a page-turner from outset. The story is about Licoln Rhyme, a criminalist and his side kick Amelia Sachs. They're on the hunt for the latest serial killer who is nicknamed the Coffin Dancer as he is deadly. It's an amazing story with lots of twists and turns and it really does keep you guessing up until the very end.

I'd give it a 9/10 :)

I will rread this book next, as I've got it on my shelf. Hope you're very well, Nicola. :)

My thoughts exactly! :D I usually never give 5/5 to a crime/thriller book on goodreads because I feel like they are not my most precious, precious kinda books, but this one I just had to give 5/5!

Charm you are going to love it!

Well I've just finished The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice. I'm not sure what I think to be honest. I was expecting it to be on par with Interview With The Vampire but it wasn't.....however it was a good book overall and maybe it's not fair comparing them.

Basically, Lestat awakens from a spell underground (literally) in the 1980s and finds that Louis has told his story in Interview With The Vampire so decides to do the same himself in the hope of encouraging long lost friends/enemies to find him. His story takes the reader to ancient Egypt, Rome, the Paris of Marie Antoinette and the times of the druids and we find out how the Vampire came into being. It's quite an interesting book and I'd imagine that a person who has an interest in ancient history might enjoy it more than your average reader.

I loved Lestat, he really grew on me. Overall I found I had to push myself to finish it but I'm glad I did. I would give it 7/10 as I enjoyed it but I'm not entirely sure why :readingtwo:

It's quite alright...I already own the skirt, so it'll be just the pompoms I require to fulfil your vision...

I've just finished Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay and really enjoyed it.

Dexter Morgan is a Blood Spatter Pattern Analyst for the Miami-Dade Police Department. He's also a serial killer who goes after the bad guys that slip through loopholes in the law. During the book another serial killer is on the rampage and Dexter feels torn between his admiration for this new serial killer and his foster sister Debs who also works at the police department and wants to work her way through the ranks to sergant level.

There are a few twists and turns along the way and the ending is brilliant. A TV series has been created which losely follows the plot but there are enough differences between that and the book to keep you hooked! I'd give it a 9/10 and definitely recommend it :)

I've finished the the next Lincoln Rhyme book in the series which was The Empty Chair by Jeffrey Deaver. I found it quite enjoyable but not as good as The Bone Collector or The Coffin Dancer.

Lincoln Rhyme and his sidekick Amelia Sachs are in North Carolina preparing for Lincoln's ground-breaking operation which could help him recover the use of some muscles. Whilst they're in the hospital, they receive a visit from the local sheriff who asks for Lincoln's assistance in tracking down the notorious Insect Boy who has killed a boy and kidnapped a local girl. The police department think they only have 24 hours to find the girl before Insect Boy kills her.

As per Deaver, there are many twists and turns along the way to keep the reader hooked! 8/10

This one didn't even get a 9/10! :smile2:

I have still not read any of old Jeff's novels, dammit. I keep getting side-tracked into something else!

Note to self: stop being an arse and read the damn books! :smile2:

I hope you're very well, Nicola.

You really really really need to get reading Mr Deaver Mac! I've decided to take a break and read something else but it's just not as good! (I think I have such high expectations these days! Haaa! :))

I'm very well Mac, how about yourself?

I shall start on one after I've finished The Angel's Game (I'm really loving it - it's a belter!)

I have finished work early today because I CBA. I'm feeling glum and don't want to face the world. I've come home, grabbed a bottle of Peroni and I'm going to read, read, read - even turned off and unplugged my phones!

Bah. Humbug. :)

I promise I'll get onto Deaver tonight. Then I'll truly become a Deaverette!

Ah don't be glum Mac! :)

I'm reading a book at the moment that I'm not too sure about. I'll finish it but I'm not sure if I'm enjoying it.....bizarre!! haa!!

Well enjoy your beer, books and peaceful quiet :)

Well.....I've finished two books since updating this thread last.

The first one is John Ajvide Lindqvist's Let The Right One In about a young boy called Oskar who befriends Eli, a strange quiet girl who is also a vampire which is unknown to Oskar. The stereotype of a vampire, surrounded by beauty and wealth didn't exist in this novel which was set in a quite a bleak, deprived Swedish suburb.

It was quite a strange book and I still don't know what to make of it. Overall, I enjoyed it and the positives outweigh the negatives. I liked the ending and really liked Oskar's story. However, the lack of vibrancy or optomism made it a difficult read for me as it wasn't a happy tale. I'm glad I read it though and it was a change from my usual book of choice. 9/10

The second book was The Blue Nowhere by Jeffrey Deaver. As usual, Deaver has written another fantastic novel which keeps you on your toes while also being slightly educational.

The serial killer on the loose is a computer wizard who has created a new bug which can enter anyones computer at any time, take their identity, money and deepest darkest secrets without the person knowing. He then uses this information along with access to government systems to gain the victims trust before killing them.

It was such a good insight into the world of the Hacker and makes you think twice about what you put out there on the world wide web. There were plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader interested and even though you think you know who did it, the last few chapters change all of that. 9/10
