dakingavenue
I've allways been a fan of short stories, but it seems to be a dying art, can any one recommend any new authors specialising in this genre. Michelle
I'm reading a few new authors writing short stories, so I'll be sharing my thoughts soon. One author that I have enjoyed is Sarah Salway.
Kylie
Ray Bradbury has written a lot of short stories over the years. I've only read a few, and they've been very good. Stephen King also has some short story collections out. They're all horror stories, if you don't mind reading those.
Rawr
I agree with the Stephen King mention; 'Nightmares and Dreamscapes' has some great ones. I don't really know of many other collections.
Seiichi
I've allways been a fan of short stories, but it seems to be a dying art, can any one recommend any new authors specialising in this genre. It depends on what you mean by new. For modern short stories, you could try the ones written by the late Raymond Carver.
Anika
John Connolly is good if you like the macabre. Also, most books stores have lots of anthologies of short stories based on different themes.
SueK
Have you read Daphne du Maurier's short stories. She wrote loads of them. I've just started a collection called The Breaking Point.
Raskolnikov
I did. Very short stories I recommend are the dark prose from Baudelaire in Spleen and Ideal. These are not poems but dark and acid sketches.
Jay Landsman
My mate keeps pestering me to read some Raymond Carver short stories. Would any of you recommend his work?
chesilbeach
I've read short story collections by Simon Van Booy, Ali Smith, Yiyun Li and Gina Oscher all of which were very good/excellent. A L Kennedy writes a lot of short stories, and I have a few of her books on my wishlist to try.
~Andrea~
My mate keeps pestering me to read some Raymond Carver short stories. Would any of you recommend his work? Hmm. Well yes they are worth reading. They are mo9re old school short stories, about the journey rather than the destination if you know what I mean. So I kind of enjoyed them, but I wouldn't go out of my way to hunt for more. I mean, I can see their merit, and they are enjoyable to read, but perhaps just not my thing. So yes I would, with a disclaimer lol.
Echo
I had an English teacher who loved Raymond Carver, so I think it would be safe to try him out. Some other good ones are: Haruki Murakami Joyce Carol Oates John Connolly Neil Gaiman Rick Moody David Foster Wallace I still maintain, though, that no one beats Hemingway at a good short story! Raskolnikov
How did I forget Stefan Zweig? His short stories are very intense, every paragraph is full of ideas and he is a real writter.
