pipread Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I work in a school, so we usually mark the day by having people in to read/tell stories, and often we make a class book of some kind. It`s usually a fun day and the children, who are all special needs, all get something out of it. Quote
Ben Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Never really done anything for it before now. Quote
Karen1 Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Maybe we could try and think of something to do on BCF ... not sure what though. Quote
Kell Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 Perhaps we could all take photos of ourselves reading in unusual places on "the day" and post them here? Quote
Talisman Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I don't think there is much at all going on in my area - I suppose I could write something about the importance of books for the Box Hill News though or a letter to the local paper ! By the time the day comes around I will be back on Lundy - there are no book shops there ! Quote
Janet Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Perhaps we could all take photos of ourselves reading in unusual places on "the day" and post them here? You need to be careful with that idea! Quote
Karen1 Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 How about a readathon, or a mini-readathon? Quote
Andaira Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I've never done anything special before on this day. I actually never even knew it existed . I especially like Kell and Karen's ideas though. Quote
Kell Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 You need to be careful with that idea! That was actually what gave me the idea- of course, I'd expect our members to be more careful and sensible than that - LOL! Quote
Karen1 Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 A mini-readathon would be good. A kind of race to see who can read the most pages during a certain time period. We could either get sponsors, or we can each donate a small amount ourselves - a kind of entry fee. The one thing I would say if a readathon is what we do, is that it might be best to change the day we do it on. March 5th falls on a Thursday and I don't know about the rest of you but I would prefer to do a readathon on a Saturday or Sunday - more time for one thing! Quote
Nici Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I think doing the photos would be great, i'm already trying to think of where I could have a photo taken! Quote
Kell Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 ...I'm already trying to think of where I could have a photo taken! Me too! Quote

baggiesfan Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I will gladly take any pictures, purely for charity of course Quote
Kell Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 How about a "book swap"? We could set up a thread of fokls who are interested and each person is paired up with another and they send each other a book they've already read and enjoyed (to keep, of course, otherwise it would just be a multi-person book loan!) in time for World Book Day. Cadenza Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 (edited) At primary school we used to dress up on the day and get the voucher. Now I don't usually do anything but i'd join in any event on here as they are all really good ideas. Edited February 14, 2009 by Cadenza Quote
lexiepiper Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 As a question about the book photo, is it allowed for the photo to be of a friend or partner, or does it have to be us specifically? Quote
Kell Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 The rules are now posted for the photo comp HERE. The rules for the Big Book Swap are now posted HERE. Quote

I am a teacher but we are having our WBD celebrations a week or so later as we have a special guest coming in to do workshops with the kids! Quote
kernow_reader Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I usually mark it by buying a book for my daughter and my eldest son alongside which I manage to throw one in for myself Don't buy for the youngest though as he wouldn't even know which way to hold a book let alone that there's a special day dedicated to them.
