Nellie
I saw this on the BBC about a new story programme for children. It made me think about how much I enjoyed Jackanory when I was little. My favourite was Rik Mayall reading George's Marvellous Medicine. I don't think there is anyone better to read this!
Stephanie2008
The Rik Mayall one was the only one I have seen and I loved it
BrainFreeze
They do still have Jackanory Junior on the CBeebies channel. My 2 little ones watch it and both enjoy it.
Kell
I saw a repeat a while back of Dame Judy Dench (pre-Damehood) reading "A Dog So Small", which brought a tear to my eye!

BrainFreeze
It is pretty good - they've had Martin Clunes, Lenny Henry, Martin Freeman, Holly Aird, Art Malik, Chris Marshall and loads more reading the stories. Lenny Henry is my favourite!

chesilbeach
I am feeling old with everyone talking about Jackanory:lol: Me too! Especially because my favourites are really old ones ... Bernard Cribbins, Willie Rushton and Kenneth Williams - all amazing storytellers.
~Andrea~
Ah Jackanory. Rik Mayall was fab with GMM. I remember Victoria Wood reading something too that I enjoyed. Some kind of take on Goldilocks - and I never heard the final episode. I'd love to find out what is was so I can finally end the suspense . Seem to vaguely remember Bernard Cribbins and Kenneth Williams but not sure what they read.
BrainFreeze
I remember Victoria Wood reading something too that I enjoyed. Some kind of take on Goldilocks - and I never heard the final episode. I'd love to find out what is was so I can finally end the suspense . Seem to vaguely remember Bernard Cribbins and Kenneth Williams but not sure what they read. Apparently Victoria Wood read Ten in a Bed. Bernard Cribbins was in 111 programmes and Kenneth Williams was in 69. Good ol' Wikipedia! I used to like the old programmes too and apparently there's new ones on CBBC in the 'old-style' format where one book was read over 5 days. The one I know now (thanks to my children) is the junior version, which is one book read in one programme, but the junior version is for toddlers really, with shorter attention spans and memories. Inver
Does anyone remember John Grant and the 'Little Nose' stories? I loved Jackanory. It was always on just before our tea time when we were wee. It was always especially good when it was someone you liked reading the story. Has Stephen Fry been on any of the new ones.
