chesilbeach Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I never thought I'd like short story collections, but after I read People I Wanted To Be by Gina Oscher, I've become more tempted by them. The Sarah Salway book looks interesting and has been added to my wishlist. Thanks Quote
Chrissy Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I can definitely second Sarah Salway! 'Leading The Dance' is a wonderful read. Quote
Michelle Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 Was it in your prize bundle Chrissy? I'm so glad you liked it. Quote
Chrissy Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Indeeed it was! I haven't finished all of the stories, but I adore her style. She has descriptive skill that shifts your personal sands somewhat! Just great. Quote
Michelle Posted September 6, 2009 Author Posted September 6, 2009 The Baby and Through A Glass, Darkly were both excellent reads, and have been reviewed (not very well though) on the reviews blog. I've also finally finished my audiobook of Salem's Lot, which has been perfect to listen to at night! Classic early King, very enjoyable. Quote
Nollaig Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 I'm glad you enjoyed Through A Glass, Darkly, - I knew you would when you liked The Absence Quote
Michelle Posted September 6, 2009 Author Posted September 6, 2009 You may have seen on facebook Roxi, but Bill has now headed into children's books.. http://www.booktrade.info/index.php/showarticle/22941. It sounds great! Quote
Nollaig Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Oh I didn't see that actually, thanks for the link! Still haven't heard back about his interview, the publisher (Katherine? I forget ) did say he had some family issue and would get back to me when he could. Hm. I'm still dying for whatever he does next though, kids books or otherwise! Quote
Michelle Posted September 6, 2009 Author Posted September 6, 2009 Beth is getting near the end of The Fire Within, and she appears to be very much enjoying it. Amy certainly likes books, but she's only just starting to read. Quote
Chrissy Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Any chance of Beth writing a guest review on it? Quote
Michelle Posted October 3, 2009 Author Posted October 3, 2009 Sorry Chrissy, I missed this - I have tried to get her interested in reviews, but it never quite happens.. I do know that she finished it, and really liked it - and she's now moved on the 'Charlie Bone' series. It's nice to see her reading decent sized books, instead of the likes of Horrid Henry! As for me.. (trying not to forget anything).. I read A Note From An Old Acquaintance, which was for a blog tour.. it was enjoyable enough, but not one of those 'stand out books'. Next came Of Bees and Mist - a rather unusual book! Then The Gates, which I thought was brilliant! Audio-wise, I finished Salem's Lot, and also listened to Too Close To Home by Linwood Barclay - I did like it, but the ending seemed somewhat of an anticlimax, and I preferred his first book. Moving on, I've just started a proof copy of Tell Tale by Sam Hayes, which I'm very excited about; plus there was a copy of The Brutal Telling by Louise Penny in the parcel, which also looks very good! Michelle Posted January 11, 2010 Author Posted January 11, 2010 Well, the last part of my year was terrible - after being so good about keeping records, I got completely behind, and am likely to miss some out! Tell Tale was rather good - there's a review on the forum and blog, plus an interview with Sam on our BCF blog. The Brutal Telling I had trouble getting into, so I gave up - maybe later. I also finally finished Underwater by Elizabeth Diamond, which I shall be reviewing soon. I started King's Under The Dome, but I don't think I'm really in the mood for it right now, so will probably come back to it later. I shall move onto a new 2010 blog, and pop back here if I remember anything from last year! Quote
