Guest velocipede2288 Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 I am a new member and am now reading "Rookwood" by Harrison Ainsworth. A gothic style tale of a highwayman based on the life of Dick Turpin. One character is named Johm Palmer, and I believe that was one of the names used by Dick Turpin. It is a while since I read this book, but enjoy the older style of writing, such as Dickens and Walter Scott etc. But I also love modern detective stories.Ed McBain being my favourite. Quote
AWoolford Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 I just have to say I started reading the classics a few months ago and I will say there is nothing like reading 19th century literature. It's like opening a new world to me. There are so many great authors, books from that century, that we if we desire will never have to touch another. I know that EM Forster is early twentieth but not far off. I'm just finishing Howards End and it makes me a little sad that it's ending. Quote
