  1. Has anyone read any books from Patrick O'Brian's (Aubrey-Maturin) series? Any input about the books, I watched Master and Commander last night and it peaked my interest.
  2. From Good to Great by Jim Collins I've read it twice and have listened to it on CD once. I apply it more for work, but it's still a great read! I also read the Vincent Price biography written by his Daughter Victoria Price, twice. Such an incredible story about such an incredible man, who lived his life to its absolute fullest. And for those who like well written books, Victoria Price has a masters in English. ________________________________________________ Those who limit their intrests limit their lives -- Vincent Price
  3. Thanks for the replies, I ordered both titles from everyman's Library, but I will begin with Portrait of a Lady.

I just have to say I started reading the classics a few months ago and I will say there is nothing like reading 19th century literature. It's like opening a new world to me. There are so many great authors, books from that century, that we if we desire will never have to touch another. I know that EM Forster is early twentieth but not far off. I'm just finishing Howards End and it makes me a little sad that it's ending.
  6. The end is nearing on my latest read, E.M Forsters Howards End. I just wish that it would never end, but like all good books.... So I'm debating as to what I will read next: I have "Portrait of a Lady, Henry James." Or "Nostromo, Joseph Conrad." Any input is welcome?
  7. Top three classics hey, well since I have just begun reading the classics I have very few to choose from. A Passage to India Oliver Twist Typhoon - Conrad Joseph
  8. Welcome lopeanha, I'm also a newbie:)
  9. I see you have read Gerry Spence. I have read five of his books. I have a first copy of Gunning of Justice.
  10. Wow a social group for the classics.! And BTW I read Notes from the Underground this past winter right before I read Crime and Punishment over the summer. Fantastic books. I enjoyed both!
  11. Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. I'm looking forward to getting to know the group through the forum. Finally, a forum for me that will be fun!
  12. Hi Everyone, I joined the group today. This is the kind of forum that I hope I will enjoy while I am an avid reader; I just decided recently to begin reading the classics. I just finished A Passage to India, and prior, Crime and Punishment. I'm a few pages into Howards End which I've read is better than A Passage to India, so I'm looking forward to reading it and many more of the classics. I know that I will learn something along the way too. I'm in Calgary, Alberta Canada. A picturesque city centered between the flat lands (Prairies) and the mountains. Very Best, AWoolford
  13. Sorry, I copied and paste the last thread. It reads poorly.
  14. Hi, I just joined this group. I just finished A Passage to India the other day and enjoyed it immensely. I appreciate the use of the English language by Forster, and though that the character Dr. Aziz encountered struggles both internally and externally. This presented itself clearly to me. Even though I believe his love for Mrs. Moore was symbolic, I would like to have seen it developed so that I would have believed it.
  15. Hi, I just joined the group. The website is coming along nicely.
