Has anyone else fallen asleep while reading a book and then lost your place? If so how often does it happen?:D

I can probably say every night (you must have seen me on occasions on the sofa!!) :smile2: I should make time to read while I am more awake really :D

Only when I read Dan Brown. :smile2:

No, seriously - I never fall asleep reading. If it's a bad book I put it down and if it's a good one I carry on reading. I've stayed up all night reading before, many, many times. If I want to know what happens, my brain refuses to shut down and go to sleep.

But then, I'm an insomniac anyway, whether I read in bed or not, so I may as well. I'm single so it's not like I have anything else to do there. :011:

I don't think I've ever fallen asleep while reading. If I feel myself becoming tired and that my eyes are getting heavy, I always put my book aside and go to sleep.

I am Like Karen whenI start getting tired I put my book down even tho' I want to still read the words start reaping themselves and I have to give up.

Lately I've started nodding off a few times whilst reading a book I didn't want to put down. I put it down to pregnancy though, as usually I would keep reading through till I can't rad any more and then put it down when I want to go to sleep - these days I could fall asleep at the drop of a hat. I've even had to have a nudge or two from my colleague during my evening class on occasion, as I'm so shattered I start zoning out and closing my eyes (extra long blinks, really - LOL!).

Most nights I start to nod off, but I try to get to the end of a chapter, or a section. If I force myself to reach a certain point, then when I finally switch off the light, my brain usually says"oh no you dont!!" and I lie awake for ages.

Prospero - good to see you back, I have missed you and your sharp wit.:D

I don't fall asleep reading but I do read until I can no longer hold up a book or am struggling to keep my eyes open. Books are a guaranteed way to make myself sleepy, especially if I read led on the bed!

Same here, I read till my eyes are starting to shut then put the book down. I have been known to fall asleep listening to audio books though! a great cure for insomnia :D

I've been called a 'sharp wit' many a time...I think it's rhyming slang. :smile2:

Ha ha!

I have always fallen asleep whilst reading. I find it very difficult not to. I used to struggle like mad to stay awake whilst reading bedtime stories to my children, and they would learn to jog me awake. When trying to read for study I had to read the same page over and over because I kept falling asleep or dozing. I didn't know then that I have narcolepsy. This is why it takes me so long to read anything.

I've never fallen asleep whilst reading a book, but that's probably because I have to be lying in bed in a dark room before I can sleep anyway!

Sometimes, when I have been exhausted and not read all day, I have opened my book, wanting to read, only to fall asleep as soon as I do. Most often I will lose my place by putting a book down when the children want me (which nearly every time I pick up a book).

I often get sleepy when reading. When I re-read a sentence a dozen times and still don't take it in, then I know it's time to put the book aside and have a snooze. I always put my bookmark in first though!

If it starts to seem like I'm falling asleep, I'll put the book down. I can only remember one time when I fell asleep with a book in my hand. It woke me up when it fell on the floor. :D

If I read for too long I get sleepy. However I usually stop reading at that point. Once or twice I've nodded off with a book in hand though...!

I tend to take little cat naps on the subway going home so I frequently need to find my place again

LOL - I hope you've never nodded off and gone past your stop?!

I often fall asleep if I read in bed. Quite often my husband takes my book out of my hand (and if I'm lucky, my thumb is still in the page so he'll save it for me!) and puts it on my bedside table!

I've done that :smile2: It's a nuisance, especially when the next train going back isn't due for half an hour or so!

The funny thing is, if I'm tired on the afternoon train, nothing will keep me awake; I'll just nod off. But in the morning, I can read all the way going to work, no matter how tired I am. So I might be tired to the point where my eyes are sore, but I won't/can't sleep unless I 'force' my eyes shut.

I've only fallen asleep when studying for chemistry exam back in high school. Other than that, never with a book. I usually manage to put it down first.

Nowt wrong with Dan Brown. Angels & Demons was a brilliant thriller. Digital Fortress was pretty dire admittedly. Great page turners.

I actually quite liked Digital Fortress. Then again, I've always loved math so...
